The two weeks of paternity leave were introduced on January 1st, 2021. Before 2021, a Swiss father was entitled to have one day of paternity leave. Hence, if the birth endured more than one day, he had to take a day of vacation. 37 From January 1st, 2021, employed or self-employed fathers can take two weeks (10 days) of paternity leave. If they take it, they receive 80% of their salary.39 They must take these ten days in the first six months after the birth of their child.
