The implicit assumption underlying the estimator is that if the weighting removes non-parallel trends successfully during the pre-treatment period (which can be tested), it will likely mitigate a potential non-parallel trends problem during the post-treatment periods (which cannot be tested) . For a more formal introduction and evaluation of the estimator in the context of a Monte Carlo study, we refer to a companion paper (Ahlfeldt, 2018).
