The results are exactly inline with the main findings from Faber [2014]. Locations that happened to be on the road between two main cities had worse outcomes relative to those just off the road. This may be surprising as I consider a very different setting, and my modeling framework doesn’t allow for economies of scale. This exercise highlights that the type of variation used can lead one to come to very different conclusions as to the effect of changes in connectivity on local outcomes. The advantage of my framework is that I can capture all of the potentially complex effects of different changes in connectivity on outcomes.
