California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., Calls on Students and Families to Encourage their School Districts, Schools, and Charter Administrators to Participate in High School Voter Education Weeks
Sacramento, California – California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., is calling on students and families to encourage their school districts, schools, and charter administrators to participate in High School Voter Educations Weeks.
California Education Code section 49040(a) designates the last two full weeks of April and September as High School Voter Education Weeks. These weeks provide an opportunity for highs schools and their students to partner with county election officials to promote civic education and participation.
Secretary Weber, in partnership with California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond https://www.cde.ca.gov/, issued a letter encouraging all California high schools to participate in High School Voter Education Weeks, September 15-26, 2025. The Office of California Secretary of State Weber also issued a memorandum to county election clerks and registrars of voters to encourage them to participate.
Participating high school students will have the opportunity to learn how to pre-register to vote, how to become a student election poll worker, and possibly organize voter registration drives on their campuses.
