Drama between Eastern German refugees and inhabitants of a provincial town.

The bridge is a German DEFA film from the year 1949 from Arthur Pohl who is also responsible for the screenplay and the direction. The film was performed for the first time on the 28th February, 1949 in the Berlin Filmtheater in the Friedrichshain.

The film plays towards the end of the second world war and describes the arrival of refugees from the German east areas in a provincial town. After initial skepticism / hostility it comes in case of a big fire to the collaboration between the inhabitants of the town and the expelled. !!!Don't make the mistake and mix this movie with the same named movie directed by Bernhard Wicki, made in 1959!!!

Achtung! This is not correct! This is not the anti-Nazi film "Die Brücke" from 1958. This is a totally different film from 1949, which depicts the life in the Germany after the WW II. I have no idea who wrote the synopsis, but obviously the person mistook this film for the other one. This is the directorial debut of Artur Pohl and tells the story of war refugees as they try to settle in a small town in Germany. Not a bad film, but definitely not the action film described by the other commentator. I would gladly add more lines in order to make the comment longer, but then I would probably have to tell you stories of my life, and I am really not in the mood. Wish the IMDb would drop the stupid 10-minimum-line rule.
