The crime movie Gault is watching at 9:08 is the 1931 German film, "M", directed by Fritz Lang and a brwakout role for Peter Lorre. "M" is about the pursuit of child murderer in a German city by the local police that has caused such a crackdown that the city's other criminals join in the pursuit.
