A new study from the Universities of Geneva and Bern found that large language models, like ChatGPT, are outperforming humans in emotional intelligence tests, scoring up to 82% vs. 56% for humans. These models not only interpret emotions but also suggest how to act in emotionally complex situations. One even created realistic test questions on its own. It’s an exciting leap for AI in areas like coaching and education (the study is published in Communications Psychology), but a reminder, too: emotional intelligence isn’t just about getting the right answer.
