This summer, we had the joy of welcoming Sarah Hailu as a HMJ Fellow through our partnership with Black Girl Environmentalist. Over the course of her 10-week fellowship, Sarah consistently demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and a collaborative spirit, exploring the intersection of business development and policy within the context of the evolving carbon markets. We’re incredibly grateful to have had Sarah on our team this summer and can’t wait to see all the amazing things she’ll go on to accomplish! California’s Cap and Trade program is set to expire in 2030, but we believe its work is far from done. We, alongside 40+ organizations across sectors, are urging California’s climate leaders to extend and strengthen this critical program. The program has delivered proven benefits for emissions reduction, innovation, and economic resilience—not just in California, but as a model for climate action around the world. Let’s build on that momentum. https://lnkd.in/eJvBiZUT

In a major development for US forest owners and the global carbon market, the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) has granted the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label to ACR’s Improved Forest Management (IFM) on Non-Federal U.S. Forestlands methodology. This methodology is the most widely-used voluntary methodology among US forest owners and one with which The Climate Trust has developed several projects. This long-awaited decision marks a significant milestone, as market participants continue to seek clear guidance from standard-setting bodies on which methodologies align with the market’s core principles. This move signals progress in identifying high-quality methodologies that support our shared mission of reducing global emissions and meeting the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement. At this stage, only projects using ACR’s Version 2.1 of the methodology are eligible for the CCP label, although no credits have yet been issued under that version. Version 2.0 remains under assessment. The ICVCM is an independent, non-profit and global governance body working to establish and maintain worldwide standards for integrity in the voluntary carbon market. Launched in 2021, the ICVCM has become the go-to standard for assessments of carbon credit integrity. The ICVCM’s Core Carbon Principles and associated Assessment Framework, against which methodologies are assessed, are science-based, developed with input from hundreds of organizations worldwide, and broadly regarded as setting the bar for high quality carbon credits. The Climate Trust's Grasslands Team conducted an initial verification site visit at Delhi Ranch—our first project in Colorado to issue credits under the Climate Action Reserve's U.S. Grasslands Protocol. With nearly 50% of Colorado’s shortgrass prairie already lost to cropland conversion and development, this carbon project plays a vital role in supporting a multigenerational ranching family’s effort to conserve and steward more than 27,000 acres of the endangered Great Plains ecosystem. Interested in supporting this project? Visit our website or message us about our offset availability. https://lnkd.in/eUBiWXPp

The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) just approved ACR’s Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation of Degraded Lands Methodology to receive the CCP label. Projects awarded the CCP label are expected to enhance market confidence by signifying high-integrity carbon credits. The Climate Trust currently has two ACR reforestation projects under development which aim to restore forestland lost to wildfire. If you're interested in developing a reforestation project, please contact us for more information! https://lnkd.in/gK-V9TSp

Offsets play a critical role in California’s Cap-and-Trade Program by delivering emissions reductions, cost savings, climate resiliency, and community impact. As the California Legislature considers an extension to the program, the key question remains: "How do we keep climate momentum going in the most cost-effective way?" As the article suggests, offsets help address that question and we hope to see continued support for it as a proven tool for driving scalable climate impact. https://lnkd.in/e2vtTUbs
