About us

Aesop was established in Melbourne in 1987. Our objective has always been to formulate skin, body and hair care products of the finest quality, as well as fragrance and accessories for the self and home. All Aesop products are vegan. We do not test on animals and only use ingredients with a proven record of safety, efficacy and sustainability. We are on a journey to reduce our footprint on the planet that generously sustains us. So far, our progress has led to Aesop becoming a certified B Corp™. Alongside our commercial activities, we explore and support the arts as an avenue through which to inspire, learn and communicate. We are headquartered across two locations—Melbourne and London—with satellite offices and stores in many parts of the world, including New York, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Aesop has carefully cultivated a work environment in which our employees are constantly challenged to do their best. Our company is determinedly creative, intelligent and progressive, and nurtures these qualities by employing people who share our passionate interest in design, innovation, and incisive enquiry across all fields. Just as the ingredients in our products are carefully selected for their unique characteristics, so too are the individuals who work with us around the world – we value working with those who can bring a wealth of life experience and inspired ideas to our table.

Thank you to all who attended this year’s London edition of the Aesop Queer Library, including our thought-provoking guests: Fourteen Poems shared their latest anthology, ‘Eff-able: a spicy anthology of queer crip poetry’, with readings from some of the featured authors. David Roberts discussed his approach to LGBTQIA+ history in his illustrated book ‘We Are Your Children’. Artist and writer Tourmaline and K Bailey Obazee—founder and director of the agency PRIM—discussed the role of queer literature, while an in-house session of PRIM’s book club, OKHA, gathered around Tourmaline’s biography of Marsha P. Johnson, ‘Marsha’.

The Aesop Queer Library returns to the US and Canada for its fifth edition, in collaboration with the ACLU Foundation. This year, the theme ‘In other words—language as liberation’ celebrates the vibrant vocabularies crafted by LGBTQIA+ communities, and showcases the power of language as both a shelter and a declaration of defiance. The shelves of select stores have been cleared of most products and stocked with complimentary books for visitors to peruse and take home.  Books generously sourced through Penguin Random House.

Aesop & OTHER MATTER    For Melbourne Design Week (15-25 May), four Aesop stores were transformed by experimental materials studio OTHER MATTER, founded by Jessie French. Using unique algae-based bioplastics, the window of Aesop Flinders Lane was decorated with decals that required no adhesives, while the material was used to wrap plinths at Aesop Collins Street that stood below a translucent hanging scroll. A curtain made with algae swathed the window of David Jones Bourke Street, while visitors to Aesop QV could peel an algae-based bottle shape from the window as a memento of the installation. One step closer to closing the loop. First introduced in Hong Kong in 2018, our Rinse and Return programme continues to travel far and wide. Now, we are expanding its reach to seven new countries: the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. In partnership with TerraCycle, the initiative allows for optimal recycling through in-store collection of aluminium, glass and plastic containers—as well as smaller components such as caps, pumps and pipettes. The shower, your stage. Eleos Nourishing Body Cleanser is the latest addition to our Body Care range. The formulation is rich in emollients and botanicals renowned for their purifying properties —with an aroma that is woody, spicy and herbaceous. To celebrate these sensorial qualities, we commissioned Nayoung Kim—a dancer of Tanztheater Wuppertal—to choreograph a unique performance, which visually accompanies the campaign.
