We're kicking off our home energy bill help service with energy experts at Uniting Vic.Tas today. Supporting community to understand their energy bill and get help with finance is a great way to start conversations about demand management, going all electric, and draught proofing. By focusing on energy bills we can help with cost of living, as well as support community to reduce their carbon emissions. Our energy bill service is open to anyone. If you live, work or interface with community in North Melbourne/Flemington/Kensington area - encourage them to drop in. All they need is a copy of their energy bill, either printed or on their device. This free service is at Djerring until Wednesday 8 December, visit our website for all the dates 👇 https://lnkd.in/gvvi_yXT

  • Today our Councillors, executives and staff members walked from the Civic Centre to the Djerring Flemington Hub to pay homage to Michael Long’s historic trek from Melbourne to Canberra in 2004. Upon arrival at Djerring Hub, Uncle Perry Wandin performed a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony and we heard from Leanne Brooke, Executive General Manager – The Long Walk and Indigenous Affairs. Afterwards, the Essendon Football Club held a mini Marngrook lesson for staff to get involved in. Thank you to Game Time Coffee and Jarrah Catering for providing delightful refreshments. This event offered our staff a valuable opportunity to demonstrate Council’s commitment to Reconciliation 🖤💛❤️

  • Last week, we headed to Woodlands Historic Park along with 14 partnering organisations to recommit to the Chain of Ponds Collaboration. This long-term project aims to restore Moonee Ponds Creek into the vibrant, iconic natural waterway for the community to enjoy. Fun fact - the creek's traditional name was is Wilami Wunmabil – meaning ‘home of the Bustard’ (bush turkey). This name was officially unveiled at the event and signifies the strong ties the collaboration has with First Peoples, and the meaningful steps towards truth-telling, cultural recognition, and Reconciliation. With the support of our Traditional Owners, fellow local governments, community groups, and more, we aim to revive the cultural and environmental elements of this space for future generations to enjoy.
