About us
Arthritis New South Wales and Arthritis Queensland agreed on a merger between the two entities with the merger taking effect from 1 January, 2025. The new entity is named The Arthritis Movement. At The Arthritis Movement, we’re dedicated to driving progress and improving lives through innovative care, dynamic support, and relentless advocacy for those impacted by arthritis. We provide education, support and services in the community. The organisation has grown consistently over the years and has more than 5,000 members. More than 35 branches and support groups operate across NSW.

A study published in The Lancet, forecasts a 31% increase in arthritis cases by 2040, impacting over 5.39 million Australians. This highlights the growing need for well-resourced health services and advocacy to support our community. Read more below from Arthritis Australia and Channel 9. According to the projected burden of arthritis among adults and children in Australia to the year 2040: a population-level forecasting study, published in The Lancet, an estimated 5.39 million Australians will be living with arthritis - that's a 31% increase from 2025. 🔹 Breakdown of projections for 2040: • Osteoarthritis: 3.11 million • Rheumatoid arthritis: 749,000 • Juvenile idiopathic arthritis: 8,500 children and adolescents 💰 The budget impact is significant too. Annual health system expenditure for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis is expected to exceed AU$11.92 billion by 2040. This research study by Professor Ilana Ackerman, Alexandra Gorelik, Danielle Berkovic and Professor Rachelle Buchbinder, highlights the urgent need for well-resourced health services that can capably deliver timely, high-value care to a growing number of people with arthritis.
