PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: $62,000 - $75,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

 

This is a local hire position and eligible candidates must be able to live and work in the US (US citizenship, Green Card or work authorisation).

PURPOSE OF ROLE

As a key member of BBC News in Washington, DC, you will oversee essential finance operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all transactions and systems. You’ll lead on process improvements, support staff activities, and maintain high standards of customer service. This role is vital in safeguarding the integrity of BBC’s financial systems, providing expert guidance, and enabling the smooth delivery of payment and banking services within a dynamic, global news environment.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Take a leading role in overseeing work streams, including staff-related activities such as approving annual leave, maintaining records, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Lead on projects to improve processes and upgrade systems, acting as a key point of contact for stakeholders.
  • Ensure all financial transactions, including purchase orders and supplier invoices, are processed accurately and in line with BBC policies and agreed terms.
  • Maintain a high-quality, customer-focused business approach, resolving queries and providing guidance on payments and related issues.
  • Safeguard the integrity of BBC finance systems by managing user access, monitoring compliance, and supporting effective use of payment and banking services.

 

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Accountant with, or working towards, an accounting qualification.
  • Significant experience of delivering a high-quality accounting and reporting service using QuickBooks Online.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practical application of accounting principles and controls.
  • Completing the weekly bank reconciliation.
  • An understanding of internal control protocols, including finance related segregation of duties within a complex organization
  • An understanding of data protection legislation and its impact on access control
  • Experience of working in a finance/payments department

 

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Experience of handling escalations and overseeing work streams
