A new #EU Alpine rail connection will connect Lyon and Turin 🛤️ The Lyon-Turin Base Tunnel will consist of a 57.5 kilometer rail tunnel underneath the Alps, crossing the border section between Italy and France. The #CEFTransport project is expected to be completed by 2033 and will allow trains to travel on a plain level line. The tunnel is expected to shift freight transport from road to rail, increase the line's capacity and cut travel time, benefitting people, the environment and transport! Exciting news from Antwerp-Bruges: On 26 August, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges embarked on significant construction efforts to establish a shore power installation at the cruise terminal on Zweedse Kaai in Zeebrugge. By early 2027, this will enable cruise ships to connect to green electricity from the shore, three years ahead of the EU deadline! Supported by #EU #CEFTransport

The Mediterranean is one of the world’s busiest seas, and one of the most vulnerable to shipping emissions. That’s exactly what #UE-funded LAND4CLIMATE project is exploring, identifying where nature-based solutions (NbS) like wetlands, urban forests, or restored river meanders can have a greatest impact across 6 countries' regions. From tiny forests in Germany to water councils in Slovakia, from water retention in Romania to sponge city concepts developments in Austria, from restored ponds in Czechia to dune systems in Italy, these case studies show that collaboration is the key to adapting to floods, droughts, and heatwaves.
