You might be witnessing exploitation of workers. ⛓One of the biggest risk factors for these workers is the long and complex subcontracting chains found on many construction sites, with several hundreds of companies being involved in one construction project. Often, workers do not even know who their boss is. In the end, this means that no one will take responsibility if - and when - something bad happens. 📢✊Ahead of the European elections, we ask you to join your voice to ours and help us protect workers’ rights! 🌳We’re excited to be in Riga, Latvia, with our wood affiliates! Fruitful debate with our eyes on the forests of the future and on the way to EU carbon neutrality. We discussed tools to promote sustainable and socially responsible forest management practices and present good practices on this topic. ✊A key part of this conversation was the role of trade unions as essential partners in shaping the future by safeguarding decent working conditions, ensuring that forest workers are not only protected but actively engaged in the shift toward sustainability. We thank our affiliate LMNA for hosting this meeting.

✊Great meeting with our Norwegian affiliate EL og IT Forbundet to hear about their priorities and to show how the EFBWW defends workers’ rights at the European level. Together we are stronger! 💪

There is only one path to simplification: with direct jobs, limits on subcontracting and a ban on intermediaries. 📢The EFBWW welcomes the report adopted today by the European Parliament on public procurement. Many of our concerns have been addressed by the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO) such as abusive subcontracting. Now it’s up to the European Commission to take the next step. We call for a strong, progressive proposal from the Commission: one that can go further in promoting quality jobs in our sectors by introducing limits on subcontracting, a ban on intermediaries in construction, and a clear link between public contracts and collective bargaining. The EFBWW is ready to work closely together with the Commission to develop good working conditions for our workers.
