Voice of European electricity. Leading the energy transition through electrification #WePowerEU #Grids4Speed

About us

At Eurelectric, we envision a future where the European power sector has a net positive impact on the environment and climate in a carbon-neutral world. To make that happen, we are on a mission to lead Europe’s energy transition with clean and renewable electricity How? We work with around 1,500 industry experts to cover all the major trends and developments in our sector - from markets to energy policy, environment & sustainable development, retail customers or networks. Our policy positions, developed with our members, are brought to policymakers and adjacent sectors by our team and members, providing effective representation in public affairs. In our work, we value above all societal engagement, climate leadership, and transparency: - Societal engagement is achieved through championing electrification. It creates jobs, improves air quality, provides customer convenience and reduces our dependence on imported fuels - Climate leadership is demonstrated through commitments, innovation and proactiveness in driving the decarbonisation and electrification agendas at the local, regional, national, and European levels - Transparency is maintained by reporting our papers and letters in our advocacy meetings register, as well as being a signatory of the EU Transparency Register Consensus building is central to our work as we seek to lead the charge on Europe’s decarbonisation agenda. Our regular meetings with the members enable discussions both on technical and strategic levels, aiming to address current sectoral issues and the long-term evolution of our sector. Their country-specific viewpoints and discussions inform our policy recommendations, position papers and studies. These exchanges are extremely valuable as they lead to the development of solid and factual evidence, which is essential when engaging with policymakers on the latest proposals on the EU agenda or setting the trend for future transformations. That’s Eurelectric: leading the energy transition⚡

  • EDP & Portuguese Postal Service forming energy community New Eurelectric report shows how Portugal is empowering consumers through the energy transition The energy transition needs all customers on board and electricity suppliers are stepping up to ensure no one is left behind. Eurelectric’s new Power to People report explores this challenge and highlights a Portuguese success story already making a difference. EDP has partnered with the Portuguese Postal Service (CTT - Correios de Portugal) to launch a pioneering energy community initiative. Solar power stations installed at more than 40 CTT locations supply renewable energy to CTT buildings and share the excess with local energy communities. This allows nearby families and businesses to benefit from clean power and save up to 35% on their electricity bills. This project helps CTT reduce its grid dependency and operate more sustainably, while enabling surrounding communities to cut energy costs and participate directly in the energy transition. • 🌍 Installing solar panels to tackle DSOs’ emissions https://lnkd.in/eKxe3NMF How can grid operators reduce emissions from their buildings? E-REDES, the largest grid operator in mainland Portugal, has installed photovoltaic solar panels on rooftops and parking lots across more than 34 locations. This initiative has helped avoid on average 49 tonnes of CO2 per year since 2020, reducing the scope 2 emissions. To reach its goal of 100% renewable electricity consumption in office buildings by 2025, E-REDES combines ongoing solar investments with purchasing guarantees of origin. This approach aims to avoid 10,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next five years. Balancing onsite solar production with renewable energy purchases is essential for achieving net zero. • ⚡️ Secure your place now: https://lnkd.in/ePdgW_39 Global leaders will gather in Paris on 9-10 September for the International Forum on Pumped Storage Hydropower, hosted at UNESCO Headquarters. The Forum marks the culmination of a year-long campaign to accelerate action on pumped storage - the unsung hero of the energy transition.   Eurelectric’s Secretary General Kristian Ruby will speak in the session Pumped for Power! The role of pumped storage in a clean energy system on Tuesday 9 September from 17:00 to 18:00 CET. The discussion will explore the role of long-duration electricity storage in enabling secure, affordable and decarbonised energy systems.   The event will bring together Heads of State, Ministers, CEOs, financial institutions, intergovernmental organisations and industry stakeholders to shape the policies and practices needed to unlock large-scale deployment of storage.   Achieving 1,500 GW of storage capacity by 2030 will be crucial to secure a reliable, decarbonised energy system. This Forum will set the direction for how to deliver it.   To learn more about the Forum and register, visit: https://lnkd.in/ePdgW_39

  • How can Europe accelerate electrification while safeguarding competitiveness and fairness? In this conversation, Mechthild Wörsdörfer (Directorate-General for Energy) and Roger Martella (GE Vernova) dive into some of the most pressing questions for Europe’s energy future: • How to optimise and expand the grid to meet rising demand • The scale of investment flows needed to enable the transition • Building the right skills base for a changing energy workforce • Ensuring industrial competitiveness and social fairness along the way A timely exchange on what it will take to deliver a decarbonised, integrated and fair European energy system. 🎥 Watch the full discussion here: https://lnkd.in/ebUWK9Jk

  • How can electricity suppliers help close the gap between climate intentions and electric solutions adoption? https://lnkd.in/gS6yUbcB Edison Energia S.p.A.’s innovative "My Sun Pro" offer is a leading example. Launched after the national “on-bill discount” scheme ended, the package combines a 5-year all-risk insurance, a seasonal “summer-winter” pricing model, and access to a virtual battery. During summer, customers benefit from variable pricing with a contribution to consumption, rewarding peak solar production months. In winter, energy drawn from the grid has a reduced rate and zero consumption contribution, helping users save even when solar output is low. This case study shows how tailored offers can make renewable energy more accessible and affordable year-round - empowering consumers to become active players in the energy transition.
