Last chance to discover the PathoSense way of approaching diagnostics of pathogens! Stop guessing. Start diagnosing. I am still here today at FECAVA in Antwerp! Happy to chat and to connect!
PathoSense is a spin-off from Ghent University and developed a complete sample-collection-to-diagnostic interpretation platform for infectious diseases in veterinary medicine using nanopore sequencing. Without prior knowledge, a full overview of all pathogens in a sample can be given. We are currently scaling this platform by setting up partnerships with veterinary diagnostic laboratories in Europe. Furthermore, PathoSense is an Oxford Nanopore Technologies Certified Services Provider and we offer fast and complete bacterial whole genome sequencing, microbiome analysis and viral whole genome sequencing. We are not just a sequencing provider but want to understand your question and help you in the best way possible to obtain biologically meaningful insights from your data.

Learn more about microbiome studies Shotgun metagenomics is another way of analysing the microbiome composition than 16S rRNA gene sequencing. By using metagenomic information we cannot only identify WHO is there, but also have a deeper look into the function of the microbiome. This is possible because of the detection of virulence, antimicrobial resistance or metabolic gene markers. ✋🏼 Stop guessing. 🚀 Start diagnosing. The coming three days, Rosalie Swimberghe and I are attending the FECAVA conference in the beautiful city of Antwerp. This conference is oriented towards companion animal veterinarians from all over the world. For us, as locals, it is a unique opportunity to connect with veterinarians who face the problem and need for better, comprehensive diagnostics for infectious diseases. 🐶🐱 🍎 🍬 Come and meet us to connect, discuss, eat some candies or juicy apples (balance, right?). We also have a lottery, come and discover! Business in Antwerp FECAVA Hans Nauwynck PathoSense

📢 PathoSense is now offering fungal ITS sequencing! 🚀 This new service allows for the characterisation of fungal communities, which are often overlooked during microbiome studies. This is a significant step forward in understanding the fungal microbiota in various samples, whether it's for characterising environmental samples or analysing feed supplements that contain yeast. Our ITS sequencing is performed using long-read nanopore sequencing, which allows sequencing both the ITS1 and ITS2 regions. More information will be shared during our upcoming webinar! Register via the link in first comment or get in touch for more information! #FungalITSSequencing #Microbiome #PathoSense #Biotechnology #Fungi #Sequencing #Nanopore #Webinar

You're driving home, the client calls, and you're trying to analyze complex diagnostic results on your phone while navigating traffic. Ever felt like you're playing the “Diagnostic Guessing Game” followed by a “computer says no” vibe when receiving a negative result? This frustration was a huge driver for me as a veterinarian and founder of PathoSense. I realized that traditional pathogen diagnostics wasn’t giving me the full picture. It's a guessing game that costs us time and our clients money, and can lead to a less-than-ideal outcome for the patient. That's the driver behind PathoSense. We are focused on something different. We're a science-driven team of 10 ready to help vets get full insights into complex disease cases. We've written a new article, "Beyond Guesswork: How Traditional Pathogen Selection is Failing Modern Veterinary Practice," where we dive into how current methods miss key pathogens. A recent case study analyzes a severe Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) outbreak with unusually high mortality, even among vaccinated adults. The investigation revealed the pathogen was not a new or more virulent "super-strain," but a known FPV lineage. So, what drove this tragic outcome? The answer is a critical lesson in managing high-density animal populations. https://hubs.la/Q03D67bD0 #veterinarydiagnostics #Diagnostics #pathosense

Learn more about microbiome studies Long-read sequencing enables sequencing the full-length 16S rRNA gene. This has major advantages because we can then analyse all the variable regions present in this gene and this information can then be used to identify bacterial taxa up to genus & species level. This is a major advantage because it deepens the taxonomic resolution of microbiome studies!
