The Eagle Has Landed! 🦅 This week marked a major milestone in our 2000T Eagle Press Rebuild/Service project. We successfully set the crown on top of the columns— a critical step in any stamping press build. Using a gantry-style mobile crane, the crown was carefully lifted and placed into position. The next stage will see us pulling up the tie rods and preloading them to lock the press frame in place, bringing us one step closer to completion. Behind the Scenes, Part 2 2000T Crown Fabrication Transport This week, our assembly team loaded a 160,000+ lb crown fabrication onto a transport trailer using our custom-built swivel with the 150-ton overhead crane. Moves of this size typically require: - 2–3 hours to complete - Special transport permits - In many cases, police escorts due to overall dimensions While the process might appear straightforward in video form, each stage involves detailed planning — from weight distribution and rigging geometry to crane load charts and trailer positioning. Shrink Fit Mastery: Installing Bronze Bushings in a Connecting Rod for a 2000T Eccentric Press! Ever wondered how a bronze bushing becomes a seamless part of a high-force stamping application? In this video, we take you through the shrink fit process—a precise and reliable method for installing bushings into connecting rods. Here’s how it works: 1) Premachining the bronze bushing to tight tolerances. 2) Soaking it in liquid nitrogen, causing the material to contract. 3) Inserting it into the connecting rod bore while it's still cold. 4) As the bushing warms and expands, it creates a permanent press fit, calculated based on bushing geometry and the force requirements of the stamping application. Eccentric Gear Inspection on a 20-year-old 2000T Mechanical Press. We recently supported one of our long-term customers with a service job on a 2000-ton Eagle mechanical press originally built around 20 years ago. As part of the inspection, we evaluated the condition of the eccentric gear and connecting rod assembly. Key Takeaways: - The eccentric gear teeth (spur-type) remain in near-new condition, with original machining marks still clearly visible and no measurable wear. - The main pin bushing was replaced with a custom bushing featuring hand-cut oil grooves to optimize lubrication and long-term performance. - The knuckle bushing on the connecting rod was retained without replacement — still well within spec after two decades of operation.
