First Quantum is a leading global copper and nickel producer.
About us
First Quantum Minerals Ltd. is a global mining company producing copper and nickel, as well as gold and cobalt. Our growing portfolio of operations and projects spans four continents and employs around 20,000 people. We are well-known for our ‘can do’ attitude and specialist technical, project management, engineering, construction and operational skills, which allow us to develop and successfully run complex mines and minerals processing plants. We strive to go beyond the goals set by other companies. After 25 years of operations we are now one of the world’s top 10 copper producers and we focus on providing a tangible benefit from everything we do for employees, investors and the many communities that host our operations. From our initial operation reprocessing tailings facilities in Zambia, to the recently completed giant Cobre Panama operation, we have recorded many significant commercial and technical achievements over the past two decades. By 2021, the combined output of our mines will be more than 800,000 tonnes of copper per year.

We are committed to the places in which we work. We work with conservation organizations, charities, and national organizations to protect the rich biodiversity of the countries in which we work. Mining is more than heavy machinery. Meet Lilmarie. Lilmarie is a Lawyer who works for First Quantum Minerals. Her role as Superintendent of Permits and Lands is versatile and interesting. In her own words, “I obtain and conduct research on permits, renewals and compliance and participate in government audits as well as interacting with the authorities on our operations and purposes. I love that I get to work both in the office environment and in the field, delving into the jungle to visit our local communities. At FQM I have been trained, my talent recognized and developed. Most importantly, I’ve had a voice that is heard in the decision-making process.” #Mining #Careers

Highlighting First Quantum’s commitment to the community creates award-winning work. We’re delighted to have won two awards for our ‘What do you see?’ campaign at the Corporate Content Awards, including the Grand Prix. This was only made possible by the deep well of stories from around First Quantum that show our commitment to the people and the places where we work. The campaign was impactful because it was rooted in authenticity. Congratulations to everyone involved. #Awards #WhatDoYouSee

Mining is more than digging holes. Meet Guillermo. Guillermo is a biologist at First Quantum. He is part of a team that monitors the impact of our operations on local biodiversity. In his own words, "I work as a technical specialist in hydrobiology and biodiversity, which means I support monitoring programs and provide technical and scientific input to our biodiversity group. We have developed an international research program to understand how the ecosystems in our area of influence function and how our operations interact with their dynamics. One of the novel aspects of this program is that, for the first time, we have identified the behavior of a typical fish in our environment to measure the ecological status of the rivers and streams that surround us." #biologist #mining #biodiversity
