About us

Inertia is a trusted collaborator for start-ups and innovative companies who need expert help to research, design, engineer, manufacture, and launch their new product ideas. We support customers through the product development process from idea stage all the way to delivering a manufactured product - and all points in between. We not only excel at the fun stuff like inventing, designing, and prototyping, but also with the critical details such as design for manufacturing, and supply chain management - the detailed work that is often overlooked but can make or break the success of a hardware product development project. What does a new frontier look like in our business? It’s a blank sheet of paper or a laptop screen glowing with potential. It’s this ‘nothingness’ from which ‘somethingness’ will come. That’s what excites us at Inertia. We recognize the genius in our partners and our team and we believe our destiny is to actualize it. Whatever ‘it’ is that hasn’t been before. And driven by our boundless curiosity, we set out to research, design and develop not just what has never been, but what we need, what will make life easier, what will make us smile. And we have the confidence to get there. With our vision and our expertise, we believe, we know, we can go anywhere. Inertia. We realize the new. • Congratulations to our client Purafy on the launch of the Portage — a breakthrough in water purification that harnesses advanced graphene-based filtration to deliver safe, drinkable water in under 10 minutes. Portable, solar- and battery-powered, and designed for the toughest environments, Portage sets a new standard for clean water access. Its true impact, however, lies in the people it serves: communities recovering after floods, families in off-grid villages, and frontline responders who need fast, easy-to-use tools to act quickly and save lives. We're so proud to have worked with Purafy to bring Portage from vision to reality. It's proof that when bold ideas and game-changing technology meet purposeful design, the outcome is change you can measure in lives, not just in specs. #CleanTech #InnovationWithImpact #PurafyPortage #CleanWater #ProductStrategy #ProductDevelopment #ProductManufacturing

  • 💉 MedTech isn’t dying — it’s consolidating. According to our friends at Zapyrus, Q2 2025 funding is up 33% YoY, but it’s flowing into fewer companies with much bigger checks. The center of gravity is shifting - 71% of top-funded firms are in Europe, while mid-market players in North America are leaning more on revenue than venture cash. Translation: -The startup pipeline is still strong. -The scale-up phase is getting capital intense. -The battle for late-stage dominance is moving overseas. At Inertia, we’re built for this reality - integrating product strategy with design, engineering, and manufacturing so MedTech and diagnostics companies can move fast when the window opens… and stay ahead when it starts to close. 📊 For a deeper dive into the numbers, this report from Zapyrus lays out the funding shifts shaping the next 12 months in MedTech. #MedTech #Diagnostics #MedicalDevices #ProductDevelopment #Inertia #RealizeTheNew https://lnkd.in/gwpFjEnS

  • $2.5B in global funding is coming for women’s health. The Gates Foundation’s commitment signals long-overdue momentum for femtech — and Canada is ready. Our founders are already building breakthrough solutions in areas like pelvic health, PCOS, and respiratory diagnostics. This commitment marks a shift, but for Canadian femtech companies, the challenge isn’t just early traction. It’s access to the substantial follow-on capital needed to get regulated, manufacturable products to market. To bridge the gap from seed-stage development to commercial-ready medical devices. At Inertia, we work with femtech companies to close that gap: identifying the right product to build, helping founders validate it with real users and clinicians, engineering it for safety and scalability, and preparing for manufacturing and regulatory approval — before critical time and capital are on the line. Companies like Hyivy Health, Cosm Medical, Neuraura, and Breathe BioMedical Inc. are already pushing boundaries, doing the hard work to build real solutions for women's health. What comes next is scaling those innovations into real-world clinical impact — and getting them into the hands of the clinicians and patients who need them. #Femtech #WomensHealth #Medtech #MedicalDevices #Canada #ProductDevelopment #ProductStrategy #DesignToManufacture #ProductManufacturing https://lnkd.in/dCHCGy8R

  • The measure of any design is what happens when a human meets it. On September 12, our VP of Brand & Product Strategy Christopher Clapinson, will deliver a guest lecture on Human Factors to graduate students at the @University of Toronto’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering. His talk will focus on how human factors engineering (HFE) shapes productization from the start — understanding the environment, tasks, and limitations real users face, and building those insights into early decisions about form, function, and experience. At Inertia, we’ve seen firsthand how applying human factors thinking early doesn’t just improve safety and usability — it helps turn promising ideas into products that thrive in the real world. We’re looking forward to hearing how students are approaching the challenge of designing products that truly work for the people they’re meant to serve. #HumanFactors #BiomedicalEngineering #ProductStrategy #ProductDesign #Innovation

  • 📅 This Monday July 28 at 9 AM ET, we're joining the next Hamilton Health Innovation Check-up, where our Manager of Partnerships Zindziswe Morris-Alleyne will share lessons from Inertia's 21 years of helping medtech teams transform critical health challenges into real-world solutions. We’ll speak to the inflection points that matter most: where early decisions on design, usability, and manufacturing can either accelerate a path forward (or stall it entirely). 👉 Hardtech is a people business. High pressure. High stakes. Still comes down to humans showing up for each other. We just wrapped a critical phase with Purafy, a clean-tech company pushing graphene-enabled water filtration to make safe water accessible in more places. Here’s how Purafy’s CTO Andy Zhou described collaborating with us: “Working with Inertia was a standout experience. The team’s technical skills went beyond what we expected and helped us get to our product vision quickly. They brought a rare mix of engineering depth and design sensibility — building elegant, ground-up solutions with a real attention to detail and aesthetics that other teams just didn’t offer. They were flexible, quick to understand what we needed, and helped guide key design decisions. On top of that, everything was incredibly well organized — clear presentations, detailed financials, and regular updates that made the whole process smooth during the project and easy to revisit afterward.” This feedback matters more to us than any spec sheet. Because in gnarly, highly technical programs, how we work determines what we can build. How we delivered launch certainty: 👉 People at the Pointy End. Tools don’t collaborate, people do. Big thanks to Mitch English and Craig Lalumiere for leading the project and keeping calm when things got challenging. Also we had lots of support from the larger team here: Wendy, Ethan Maiolo, Jacques Vassal, Lukas ten Kortenaar, Iuliana Dorina Cozubas, Savraj Sahota - we see you! The only way complex hardware ships? Skilled people who trust each other and know how to work across disciplines. 👉 Technical Storytelling. Our focus on "technical storytelling" shows the work as it evolves, so critical decisions are made with full context, not gut feel. Structured collaboration, open documentation, and a single source of truth mean CAD, risks, and budgets are visible to everyone in real time. 👉 Short Feedback Loops. We run an NPS pulse at every major milestone so we can course-correct fast, not do a post-mortem autopsy. Frequent, event-driven check-ins beat annual surveys every time. 👉Balancing Technical Depth AND Usability. It’s not enough to make it work on the bench; it has to live in the field, in a manufacturable, serviceable product that people actually want to use. 👉 Our Scorecard. Our all-time NPS just nudged up a point to 80. Over the last 6 months: 100 (yeah, small sample, but we’ll take it). For context: 70+ routinely shows up in “world-class” territory across published NPS benchmarks; 80+ is rare air. Want a deeper look at how we approach delivery in high-stakes environments? Here’s a post from our founder Ray Minato: https://lnkd.in/gSacuYkM Curious how this could work for your team? Get in touch: https://lnkd.in/gqwBAUnB
