Kapoose Creek Bio
Biotechnology Research
A biotech company revolutionizing the discovery of medicines from nature using the power of artificial intelligence
About us
Kapoose Creek Bio is a Canadian biotech company using AI technologies to uncover small molecule medicines from nature with unprecedented speed and scale. Our R&D efforts are supported by off-grid research facilities in the hunt for undiscovered chemistry in environments of unique biodiversity. We have developed a platform – unEarth Rx – that integrates phenotypic screening with advanced machine and deep learning to accelerate the identification of high-quality drug leads and simultaneously determine their mechanism of action. The result is a comprehensive, data-rich, functional map of nature’s chemistry for accelerated discovery and development of new small molecule medicines. We are building a diversified portfolio of stakes in the next generation of critical medicines, focusing our platform on neuroscience, cancer and infectious disease. Currently our development pipeline is concentrated on lead assets with exciting potential in neurological indications.

Thank you Julia Deisinger for sharing your insights from the High Throughput Chemistry and Chemical Biology Gordon Research Conferences!
What an inspiring week at the High Throughput Chemistry and Chemical Biology Gordon Research Conferences. I was grateful for the opportunity to share our collaborative research conducted with the Brown Lab and Kapoose Creek Bio on using phenotypic screening and ensemble learning to reveal the therapeutic potential of fungal natural products. Another exciting highlight was serving as a discussion leader for the first time during the GRS mentorship session “Journey through Academia and Industry,” where panelists from both academia and industry offered valuable and genuine insights to trainees. While I was especially excited for the sessions on Phenotypic Screening and Deconvolution and AI/ML at the Chemistry–Biology Interface, the breadth of science presented was equally inspiring — from innovative screening strategies and targeting “undruggable” proteins to advances in chemical probes, covalent drug discovery, interactome profiling, chemoproteomics, and induced proximity technologies. Many thanks to the GRC and GRS chairs, organizers, and all participants for fostering an inclusive community, thought-provoking discussions, and the great connections — from potential new collaborators to friendships — that came from this experience.

ICYMI: Earlier this summer, our CEO Dr. Eric Brown shared on BIOTECanada’s Insights Magazine how Kapoose Creek Bio is unlocking new medicines from nature using AI and the rich biodiversity of Vancouver Island. Our AI platform, unEarthRx, is accelerating the drug discovery process from nature – already yielding promising leads for neurodegenerative and mental health treatments. The next generation of breakthrough medicines may already exist in nature. With AI as our guide, we’re closer than ever to finding them. Today is World Conservation Day! At Kapoose Creek Bio, nature is our greatest inspiration, and we believe it holds the blueprint for the next generation of life-saving medicines. Millions of years of evolution has produced chemistry finely tuned to influence biology. And this is the ideal starting point for discovering therapies with the potential to reshape human health. But with this knowledge comes responsibility. Conservation is integral to sustaining our work, and we’re committed to protecting the ecosystems that make innovation possible. Today, we celebrate the beauty of nature and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that innovation and conservation thrive side by side. The below images are from Kapoose Creek, a remote temperate rainforest on Vancouver Island – the inspiration for our company name as well as the source of our proprietary collection of 6,000+ novel fungal strains of unique biodiversity. #WorldConservationDay #Biodiversity #Sustainability #DrugDiscovery #Fungi #NatureInspiredInnovation #ProtectOurPlanet

Time and time again, it’s been proven that nature makes the best medicines. Case in point? More than 80% of approved small-molecule drugs treating neurological conditions - greater than 400 drugs - have been derived from nature. With only a fraction of this potential having been uncovered to date, Kapoose Creek Bio is working to unearth the drug discovery solutions that are hidden in nature, using propriety AI tools to overcome longstanding and persistent barriers in the process. Kapoose Creek Bio reposted this
Just back from the Frontiers in Drug Discovery conference in Croatia, where it was a real pleasure to share the platform we've developed at McMaster University and Kapoose Creek Bio for natural product drug discovery. Grateful to the organizers, especially Igor Stagljar, for the kind invitation and for fostering such a rich atmosphere of scientific exchange. Set at the beautiful Moise Palace on the island of Cres, the experience was rich with science and culture. Exciting to see the field at large advancing with such energy and creativity.

While working on the fermentation, extraction and fractionation of Kapoose Creek Bio’s fungi (seen here grown on rice), our co-op students noticed an uncanny resemblance to some popular food items. We love their sense of humour and wanted to share it here. What foods do these fungi remind you of?
