Its core services are drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management. Metro Vancouver also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system and provides affordable housing. The new Waste-to-Energy District Energy system will triple the energy recovery efficiency of the Waste-to-Energy facility in Burnaby and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70,000 tonnes per year.
