It is with great sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of Taj Kassam’s passing on Saturday, August 31st. It is extremely difficult to summarize the total impact and legacy that Taj created. For all of us in Northland Properties and the Sandman Hotel Group, he was a pillar of strength and sensibility, a brilliant individual who believed strongly in leading by example. He treated every person he met with a level of respect and compassion that was comparable to that received from a close family member. For any of us fortunate enough to have met or worked with Taj, there was always an offer of some guidance, a story, or a joke to brighten our days. His presence will be dearly missed by us all and our thoughts continue to remain with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren during this time. Last week, we celebrated the end of an era at Sandman Hotel & Suites Squamish. We gathered for the send off of our longest-serving team member, Sue, who after an incredible 13 years of service is now retiring. Sue was such an integral part of the housekeeping team and her attention to detail, quick wit and unwavering work ethic made her a beloved presence and will be missed by all. The team came together for a beautiful evening farewell, under the shadow of the Stawamus Chief with the setting sun, overlooking Howe Sound, a magical setting for a truly special send-off. Stories were shared, laughter filled the air, and memories were made. Thank you, Sue, for everything you’ve contributed to our team at Sandman Hotel & Suites Squamish. You will be deeply missed, and we wish you all the best in this exciting new chapter ahead.
