CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The City of Cedar Rapids received more than 200 submissions to make a new city flag.
Maria Johnson the city's communication divisions manager said they got a total of 218 flag design submissions.
Johnson says the goal is not to pick a single winner, but create a new design using multiple ideas from the community.
Public submissions are over but now a small group of volunteer designers are going to create multiple designs.
A local committee is then narrowing them down and the final choice will lay in the hands of Cedar Rapids residents via an online vote.
The new flag will be unveiled on June 6th during Resident Appreciation Day/Farmers Market.
