To mark its 20th anniversary, the Journal of Simulation is preparing a special commemorative issue and invites recommendations of topics and authors, including self-nominations, for inclusion. The issue will showcase the most significant advances in modelling and simulation over the past two decades. During this period, the journal has been privileged to document and support the field’s growth, from foundational theory and methodological innovation to transformative applications across diverse domains. This commemorative issue will highlight contributions that reflect these achievements, with particular emphasis on: Foundations of Modelling and Simulation Methodological Innovations Transformative Applications While contributions spanning all areas of simulation are welcome, we are particularly interested in topics aligned with the journal’s core focus areas, including but not limited to discrete-event simulation, agent-based modelling, system dynamics, Monte Carlo methods, hybrid modelling and simulation, conceptual modelling, simulation-based optimization, verification and validation, and emerging paradigms such as digital twins, machine learning and AI-enhanced simulation. As this issue is intended to represent the collective achievements of the modelling and simulation community, authors should be recognised members of this community with a clear track record of contributions in the field. We would be honoured to receive your recommendation for a significant contribution that deserves recognition in this commemorative issue. Please complete the following FORM to submit your proposal not later than 15th September 2025: https://lnkd.in/eiB5XqR7 The form asks you to address the following: Recommended Contribution: Identify a specific development in simulation foundations, methods, or applications that has been particularly impactful over the past 20 years. This could include: A theoretical breakthrough advancing our understanding of simulation science. A methodological innovation opening new possibilities for simulation practice. An application area where simulation has created transformative impact. An emerging trend or paradigm shaping the future of the field. A contribution with notable impact in a specific region or geographical context. Underlying Motivation: Provide a clear rationale for your recommendation, addressing: Scientific Significance: Why is this contribution important? Impact and Influence: How has it influenced research, practice, or education? Innovation and Novelty: What makes it distinctive or groundbreaking? Relevance to Journal Mission: How does it align with the Journal of Simulation’s scope? Future Implications: What potential does it hold for future developments? Selected contributions will be integrated into a full-length article, with editorial support to ensure the highest quality. Kind regards, Andreas Tolk, Ph.D. Masoud Fakhimi, Ph.D.

Sustainability Analytics and Modeling. 4 EURO 2025 Special Issues. https://lnkd.in/dTdWMicc Sustainability and Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management: Models, Applications, Emerging Topics This SI invites papers that examine strategies for enhancing resilience against disasters and crises, with a focus on preparedness, response, and recovery. We seek contributions that explore how to design and implement efficient, effective, equitable, and sustainable solutions to mitigate the impact of such events and improve humanitarian logistics and supply chain management. Guest editors: Sibel Salman, Davood Shiri, M. Ali Ulku Submission deadline: 30 December 2025 Shaping Sustainable Cities: Mainstreaming Assessment Methods and Development Strategies for Resilient, Circular, Digital and Inclusive Cities. Analytics and OR applications at EURO 2025 This SI specifically emphasizes the role of assessment and evaluation methods and development strategies in supporting the development of the built environment and including citizens in the transformation of cities. Guest editors: Sara Torabi Moghadam, Patrizia Lombardi, Virginia Pellerey, Rossana Riccardi, Cynthia Chen Submission deadline: 31 December 2025 Sustainable and resilient retail supply chains: Addressing current and future challenges in modern retailing Retail supply chains are the key to ensuring efficiency, customer satisfaction, and long-term success in an increasingly globalized and dynamic market environment. Retail substantially contributes to emissions, resource consumption, and waste, driving the need for sustainable solution approaches. Simultaneously, retailers face increasing uncertainties in global markets, disrupting their operations and potentially threatening entire supply chains. Potential threats are climate impacts, political issues, and pandemics. These challenges must be incorporated into the planning approaches and require advanced decision support and tools. Guest editors: Manuel Ostermeier, Heinrich Kuhn, Pedro Sanches Amorim Submission deadline: 31 December 2025 Towards Sustainability in Global Supply Chains - Analytics and OR applications at EURO 2025 While the initial approaches to global supply chain management focused on the economic advantages and disadvantages of going green, it soon became widespread to include environmental objectives as well. Today, it is becoming increasingly important to follow the 3 Ps of sustainability (people, planet and profit) when designing and operating sustainable supply chains. This is being driven by societal and customer demands, regulatory initiatives, such as supply chain due diligence, and competition, among other factors. Guest editors: Karsten Kieckhäfer, Ana Paula Barbosa Povoa, Renzo Akkerman Submission deadline: 31 December 2025

Announcing ENRE's 2025 Hotelling Medal Winner: Dr. Yves Smeers. It is my pleasure to announce that the winner of this year's Harold Hotelling Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment is Dr. Yves Smeers of the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. Congratulations to Dr. Smeers! For more information about Dr. Smeers and his work that is being recognized with the Hotelling Medal, please see the award citation and description below. For those of you who plan to attend the INFORMS Annual Meeting in October, we will recognize Dr. Smeers as the Hotelling Medal winner at our ENRE section business meeting, and Dr. Smeers will deliver his Hotelling Medal lecture in a dedicated ENRE session at the conference. We hope that you will attend these special ENRE events and we will send out more information about them as the conference approaches. Lastly, I want to thank this year's Hotelling Medal selection committee for their efforts to run the competition and select a winner: Shmuel Oren (chair), Andres Weintraub, Hung-po Chao, Ramteen Sioshansi, and Golbon Zakeri. Yves Smeers Hotelling Medal Citation: For fundamental theoretical contributions and development of mathematical programming methods for energy risk management, economic analysis of energy markets, and formation of energy policy in the gas and electricity markets More Information: Professor Smeers is an emeritus professor at the Center for Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE) at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, where he has served as a faculty member since 1972. At CORE, he contributed to developing a worldclass energy research program by leveraging the strengths of CORE in the areas of mathematical programming and economics to push boundaries and marrying these disciplines in applications in the electricity and gas sectors. Professor Smeers engaged and had lasting policy impact on the multinational energy firm GDF Suez (subsequently ENGIE) and the European Commission, as well as many other industry stakeholders. The footprint of Professor Smeers on the application of mathematical programming in the energy sector is impressive in both breadth and depth, and often tied to significant impact on applications: (i) development of mathematical programming methods for large-scale optimization, with indicative applications in uncertainty management and complementarity problems in energy sector equilibrium models, (ii) development of fundamental theory for risk management and markets for trading risk in the energy sector, (iii) concrete proposals for aligning European electricity market design with economic first, with far-reaching implications on network pricing in European electricity markets. ------------------------------ Dr. Benjamin D.
