Rozmowy z Wami pozwoliły mi jeszcze lepiej zrozumieć proces publikacji i codzienną pracę redakcji.” Wielkie podziękowania dla zespołu z Barcelony za otwartość i energię: Rocksy Zhang Jesús García Cano Jordi Martinez Esain Wenhui Zhou Sophia Morong Inma Martínez Ruiz, PhD 🤝 Takie spotkania to coś więcej niż praca. “Information is the resolution of uncertainty” – Claude Shannon, founder of information theory MDPI attended the 33rd European Signal Processing Conference (#EUSIPCO2025) in Isola delle Femmine, Palermo, Italy. Our Electronics MDPI and Signals MDPI journals were represented by Journal Relations Specialists Maja Dragojevic (MDPI Serbia) and Anette Balint (MDPI Romania) at this premier event, which brought together delegates and papers from all over the world. The conference featured a wide range of topics, including communications, radar and sonar, machine learning and more. At our booth, we discussed the journals’ scopes and aims, as well as the role of open access publishing in disseminating knowledge and its importance for the scientific community. Our colleagues also introduced MDPI to attendees engaging with us for the first time. 💬 “We attracted the attention of Master’s and PhD students—many of whom encountered MDPI for the first time, which gave us a great opportunity to present our work in the best light. We also spoke with authors who had published with us before, who shared useful insights and suggestions”, shares Ms. Dragojević. We warmly thank everyone who visited our booth—whether meeting us for the first time or reconnecting as long-term collaborators. Each interaction was truly valuable, and we look forward to future cooperation! #MDPI #EUSIPCO2025 #SignalProcessing #OpenAccessPublishing

All articles in Diagnostics MDPI (ISSN 2075-4418) Vol 15, Issue 17, are now freely available to access, read and download: https://brnw.ch/21wW50Q COVER STORY: Chronic kidney disease is often detected late, when intervention options narrow. Saliva offers a painless, non-invasive alternative to blood and urine testing. In this scoping review from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Romania, evidence from 29 studies on the diagnostic performance of salivary biomarkers against reference standards was synthesized, and enabling technologies were surveyed. Creatinine and urea correlate strongly with serum measures (AUCs up to 1.00; sensitivity/specificity often >85%), while emerging markers, such as TMAO, cystatin C, and amino acids, may improve risk stratification and earlier detection. They also highlight rapid point-of-care approaches, including electrochemical biosensors and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, and outline the path to adoption: protocol standardization, validation in early-stage CKD, and integration into primary- and dental-care screening. There are risks to overly relying on journal metrics. Metrics like Impact Factor and CiteScore are important tools for evaluating and comparing different journals. They help navigate the growing number of journals and are involved in researcher applications. However, they can give disproportionate weight to outliers as they are based on an average number of citations. The Declaration on Research Assessment stresses that no single indicator can capture the complexities of research quality. Journal metrics should be used with caution and consideration. AI is rapidly evolving, which is putting pressure on the peer review system to evolve. Roohi Ghosh, Co-Chair Peer Review Week 2025, argues that AI is here to stay, so we must understand how best to leverage it to advance peer review. She outlines how reviewers need to be equipped with understanding and guidelines on AI usage, alongside a broader shift in focus about how AI is used across the industry.
