🌱 Meet the aevoloopies: Welcome Maximilian S.! We’re excited to welcome Maximilian to the #aevoloop team! With a background in chemistry and a strong focus on making chemical processes more efficient through innovative reactor designs, Max brings valuable expertise to our journey toward a next-generation of sustainable plastics. He has hands-on experience in reactor automation and custom reactor building, and will play a key role in developing and implementing new reactor concepts while scaling our polymerisation and oxidation processes to pilot scale. Fun fact: Max already contributed to some of the original experiments as an intern at the Universität Konstanz under Manuel Häußler supervision — and now, three years later, he’s back to continue the mission! 💬 In his own words: “I am glad to join aevoloop’s mission towards sustainable polymeric materials, and I truly enjoy my role and the challenges that come with it. The challenges are immense, but so is the opportunity. The panel guests highlighted how a new generation of innovators is designing materials from the ground up to be fully circular. As Manuel Häußler, founder of aevoloop GmbH mentioned, "the fundamental molecular design has never been touched again on a fundamental level." This isn't just about incremental change; it's about fundamentally rethinking chemistry to create materials that are biodegradable and fit for true closed-loop systems. This transformation is driven by the understanding that crises can be a catalyst for innovation. Professor Peter Seeberger, Founder of the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC) and Managing Director from the Max-Planck-Institut für Kolloid- und Grenzflächenforschung emphasized this point, saying that to retain the chemical industry in Europe, "we have to totally change the way of how we do it," and that this is a "tremendous chance" to innovate and create new business models. Gerben Meier from LyondellBasell confirmed this forward-looking investment, stating, "we are investing heavily" in circular solutions. The vision is to move from producing virgin materials to becoming a "circulatory provider of carbon," a shift that is both economically viable and essential for our planet. Christian Schiller, Founder & CEO of Cirplus, stated the plastic waste scaling problem. “We are approaching 10 to 15 millions tons of plastic, entering the oceans every year.” This has not only negative implications for the environment, but also for human health. Role: Polymer Teamlead (f/m/d) Location: Leipzig • Full time 1️⃣ Your mission 🧪 Lead, empower and further develop the interdisciplinary polymerisation team of chemists, engineers, and chemical and engineering technicians that develop the polymer formulation and polycondensation process. This includes liaising with external C(D)MOs and raw material suppliers while ensuring timelines, budgets, and risk management are met. 🧭 Define and lead the strategy to prepare the production of our novel plastics on a 100+ kt/a world-scale production plant. Identify and work towards suitable intermediate upscale steps at batch and continuous scales. 🔬 Develop a R&D strategy to determine key parameters for polymer and polymerisation development. ⚙️ Lead the development of polymer formulations and semi-finished product prototypes for a variety of processing technologies, including injection moulding, extrusion, film blowing, fibre spinning and 3D printing. 📄 Prepare technical reports and patent applications. ✅ Ensure that SHEQ and sustainability standards are upheld across all laboratory, pilot and production activities, including knowledge of REACH/CLP, LCA, recycling and end-of-life strategies. 2️⃣ What makes you a great fit 🎓 Advanced expertise in polymer chemistry or chemical engineering (polycondensation/polyesters); PhD ideal. 🏢 2-5 years of industrial job experience and hands-on experience of scaling melt polycondensation 🥼 Solid experience of polymer processing, including compounding, extrusion, injection molding and film blowing.
