This week, EMBL welcomed a delegation of 25 PhD and postdoctoral fellows from different universities and research institutes across Denmark, as part of a visit co-organised by DANEMO - communicating EMBL & EMBO possibilities to the Danish research communities. DANEMO is an initiative by the Danish Ministry for Research and Higher Education, which helps raise awareness among scientists and students in Denmark about the numerous opportunities at EMBL and EMBO, including research, services and infrastructures, training offers, and collaboration opportunities. Denmark is a founding member of both EMBL and EMBO. During the two-day visit themed ‘Advancing Cell Biology through Innovative Infrastructure', the visitors from Denmark received a tour of EMBL Heidelberg core facilities, learned about training and fellowship opportunities, interacted with several scientists about their research, and visited the on-site exhibition 'The World of Molecular Biology'. We look forward to more such interactions and opportunities for collaboration in the future!

Reforming how research and researchers are assessed is an essential step toward ensuring a more accurate, fair, and meaningful evaluation of scientific work. A recent pan-EMBL event provided an opportunity to reflect on responsible research assessment in scientific institutions. Here are some key takeaways from the event: https://lnkd.in/dJPZKK6k

Through an exciting cross-site collaboration, Melanie Schneider, ARISE Programme fellow at European Bioinformatics Institute | EMBL-EBI, and the Marquez Team from EMBL Grenoble have developed EnsembleFlex, a powerful new computational tool that helps scientists better understand how proteins move and change shape. Understanding protein flexibility is key to understanding how proteins work and interact with drugs. EnsembleFlex is user-friendly and makes it easy to: 🧬 Analyse flexibility at both the backbone and side-chain levels. 🔬 Organise data to identify different protein states. 💊 Determine how drugs could bind to proteins. Want to gain more insights into protein dynamics? Learn more about EnsembleFlex: https://lnkd.in/d4rVJ9bs The original code for EnsembleFlex is freely available here: https://lnkd.in/dYdcKBfa Andrew Leach | José Antonio Marquez Credit: Creative team/EMBL

Welcome, Tim Coorens 🇳🇱, our new Research Group Leader. Tim’s group is exploring how somatic mutations reveal the hidden history of human cells, using large-scale single-cell and spatial data to trace cell lineages, understand cancer origins, and uncover how mutations drive disease. With experience from his time at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Tim is developing new tools to push the boundaries of what genomic data can tell us about human development and disease. Find out how he plans to build his team and use cutting-edge technologies, including AI. https://lnkd.in/dZsucjMH #cancerresearch #genomics #bioinformatics
