According to new research 30% of offshore turbine blade erosion can occur in just 12 hours of rough weather each year! This means that one storm can cause a year’s worth of wear (compressing months of planned maintenance into a single weekend.) At Repath, we combine data-driven storm modelling with asset-specific insights to help operators anticipate these high-impact events and prevent costly failures. How does your organisation prepare for extreme weather?

Ever wondered WHY founders start their businesses, or what gives them the guts to launch a startup when 90% fail? For our CEO, Julius Pröll, the story began in 2007, coding early streaming sites while funding his studies through every job he could find (government aid wasn't an option). Even then, he was obsessed with building something of his own, despite having no blueprint and no one around him in that world. During his studies in Vienna, Julius dove deeper into entrepreneurship: working at a startup, leading a small team, and learning business from the ground up. Later in Hamburg, he moved into climate adaptation research, but with an applied lens. He spoke to companies. Took the time to spot their data gaps. And he started thinking of practical solutions. Clearly, there was a widening disconnect between cutting-edge climate science and the tools businesses needed to act on it. And that's when Julius had his "aha moment". Build a bridge. And turn raw climate-model data into business-ready insights. Julius teamed up with researcher Thomas Remke, reconnected with his childhood friend Sebastian Bartels (a data analyst), won a public grant, quit their jobs, and launched in 2021. 2021 was pure R&D. In 2022, their lead investor pulled out one week before signing. But instead of giving up, they rebuilt the round in weeks, closed €1.2M in pre-seed funding, and went on to secure a strong seed round. It's been a crazy journey, but today, Repath is growing stronger than ever, and now successfully equips companies to adapt before disruption hits, turning climate risk into a competitive advantage. What's the biggest leap you've taken in your career, and how did it change you?

Did you know? The Elbe River in Germany recently dropped to just 44 cm – lower than a sheet of A3 paper. Even with all the rain we’ve seen lately, it wasn’t enough to fix the problem. And it’s not just the Elbe. Across Europe, rivers are running dry more often and for longer. In Germany, inland shipping has already fallen from 205M tonnes in 2019 to 174M in 2024 – a big hit for industries that depend on these waterways. When rivers run dry: 👉 Ports lose operating days and revenue. 👉 Supply chains slow down. 👉 Ecosystems suffer. With adaptation costs expected to hit $300B/year by 2050, the pressure is only growing. For ports and harbours, knowing exactly where and when drought risk will strike – and what it will cost – is the first step to staying operational. Early action on measures like dredging or water management can turn resilience from a cost into a competitive advantage. How is your sector preparing for climate-driven risks like this?

Did you know AI could cut global emissions by 5.4 billion tonnes annually by 2035? That’s the equivalent of removing all emissions from the entire US and Japan combined. Climate conversations can often feel heavy, but at repath, we prefer to focus on the solutions and the opportunities.. That’s why research like this gets us excited. A new study shows how AI could become a powerful ally in tackling climate change. And Ka Hei Chow, our Senior Climate Impact Modeler at repath agrees! “By combining satellite data with AI, we can reconstruct spatial variations that traditional models miss, like how heat affects an urban square versus a nearby forest. That kind of granularity can save lives, budgets, and infrastructure.” By 2035, deploying AI across sectors like energy, food, and transport could: - Cut emissions far beyond the footprint of data centres. - Supercharge renewable energy through AI-managed grids that increase wind and solar output by 20%. - Accelerate plant-based protein adoption by creating alternatives that better mimic meat and dairy. - Optimise EV infrastructure and logistics to make clean mobility even more efficient. Of course, realising this potential requires intentional direction, strong policy frameworks, and serious investment. But we believe harnessing AI for adaptation and resilience will be essential to reaching global sustainability goals. 👉 What other climate-positive applications of AI are you most excited to see?

We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Joaquin Vicente Ferrer, our Vulnerability & Adaptation Modeler at repath, whose final doctorate paper has just been published in the American Geophysical Union's Geophysical Research Letters. His research reveals a dangerous urban trend: exposure to large landslides in major metropolitan cities has doubled in just 30 years, with over 500,000 people now living on 1,085 large landslides across 129 cities. At repath, we expand visibility into climate risk and boost planning resilience. Our platform gives infrastructure operators and planners the intelligence they need to: 👉 See risks before they strike (not after failure) 👉Allocate resources strategically (where they save most, not cost most) 👉 Build systems that withstand climate shocks (not just survive them) What gives repath its special edge is our team of scientists and climate specialists (including Joaquin), who work hard every day to transform research like this into actionable climate intelligence! 👏

Key Findings: ⚠️ 500,000+ people now live on 1,085 large landslides across 129 cities—entire neighborhoods built on unstable ground. ⚠️ Between 1985–2015, urban development on these landslides doubled, growing faster than the cities themselves. ⚠️ 10% of studied cities face extreme exposure, where known large landslides cover minimal area but house >1% of the population. Resilience is more important than ever! Rain was once seen as a blessing in Montecito, California, until 2018, when mudslides devastated the town. The signs were there: steep slopes, fire-scorched hills, and intense rainfall. So was the data: records of major mudflows dating back decades. But like many places, risk was underestimated… until disaster struck. Today, Montecito is better prepared. And that's the shift we need everywhere: proactive resilience. At repath, we believe climate risk only matters when it reflects how your infrastructure behaves in the real world. "Across the globe, rainfall patterns are shifting: more intense downpours, but also longer dry spells." - says Ka Hei, Senior Climate Impact Modeller at repath "We're adding a powerful new layer to our adaptation platform, combining a multi-model framework with real-world hazard databases. The result? Future risk simulated at the level of individual events translated into costs you can act on. In some exposed regions, the likelihood of those impacts could rise by over a third by the end of the century, damaging assets like overhead power lines." Our new Impact Solution makes climate risk visible, measurable, and financially actionable. Curious how your assets would hold up in tomorrow's extreme weather? Let's talk. DM us to see how repath can help you adapt before impact (or book a meeting in the link below).

We started repath because we saw too many businesses flying blind on climate risk! Floods, heatwaves, and storms are already driving up costs, yet most companies still don’t know which assets are vulnerable, how much it will cost them, or what to do about it. That’s the gap we’re closing. Our new impact solution takes raw climate data and tailors it to over 20 different hazards. From floods to heat stress and high winds, matched to the specific models of assets in each customer’s portfolio. Because climate risk only matters when it reflects how your infrastructure behaves in the real world. Most assessments stop at a portfolio‑level risk heat map. We go deeper. We build a digital twin of every asset you operate, right down to the model code. With that twin and our peer‑reviewed hazard data, we run parametric stress tests. If temperatures pass a set heat‑stress threshold, the twin automatically calculates damage ratios and efficiency loss. The result? A truly bottom‑up view of capex, opex, and resilience planning so infrastructure operators can invest confidently. Want to see the solution for yourself?
