Climate adaptation is development—and Egypt is leading the way. #Egypt’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP), led by the Ministry of Environment and UNDP Egypt with support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), provides a strategic framework for strengthening resilience to climate impacts across agriculture, water, health, and cities. Why it matters: 🌾 Over 30% of Egyptians work in agriculture—highly vulnerable to rising temperatures and water scarcity 🌊 12% of the Nile Delta’s fertile land is at risk from sea level rise 🏘️ Millions remain exposed to climate shocks The NAP helps: 📌 Integrate adaptation into national planning and budgeting 📌 Promote community-led solutions in vulnerable areas 📌 Train government staff and empower local actors 📌 Mobilize finance for scalable, bankable adaptation projects By mainstreaming adaptation into development, Egypt is protecting lives, livelihoods, and building a climate-resilient future aligned with Vision 2030. 🔗 Learn more: https://go.undp.org/w3v

Under the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator Project (#GGJAP), agrinexu for training and consulting—a Cohort 1 SME—is empowering agriculture students through experiential learning.   At Al-Haggag’s aquaponic and hydroponic farm, Akhdar bridges the gap between theory and practice, giving youth hands-on training in sustainable farming methods.   With GGJAP’s support, Akhdar has been able to: ✅ Design immersive training programmes for agriculture students. ✅ Apply Impact Measurement & Management (IMM) tools to track and grow their social and environmental impact. ✅ Expand opportunities for youth to engage in sustainable farming practices.   Through GGJAP, #SMEs gain mentorship, capacity building, and growth opportunities to scale #sustainably, create #greenjobs, and drive solutions that benefit people and the planet.   The project is part of the Danih-Arab Partnership Programme Programme (DAPP) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, implemented by UNDP in partnership with Flat6Labs and New Silk Roads .

Empowering #women = driving sustainable development. At UNDP Egypt, #genderequality is a cross-cutting priority shaping every programme outcome. From political participation to climate action, we’re integrating women’s empowerment into governance, economic growth, justice, and service delivery. In 2025, UNDP Egypt will launch a new Gender Strategy to deepen our role as a gender advocate and partner — working with government and alongside UN Women. Why protecting #Egypt’s farmland matters Only 3.6% of Egypt’s land is arable, yet it feeds the nation, supports 25% of jobs, and contributes over 11% of GDP. But this land is under threat. 🚨 Land degradation—driven by salinisation, urban sprawl, desertification, climate change, and unsustainable practices—is shrinking arable land and costing the economy. Egypt is responding through: 🌱 Soil and water conservation 🌳 Reforestation 💡 Sustainable agriculture The NWFE programme and National Climate Change Strategy 2050 aim to tackle the food–water–energy nexus, ensuring a more resilient and secure future for all.
