AIRTRUNK 24/7 CASE STUDY | On the eve of #Climateweek, AirTrunk is progressing our ongoing commitment towards 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE) across our data centres in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Malaysia and Japan. Verified hourly energy tracking is here. Google worked with solutions provider Flexidao to convert much of their global green energy portfolio from the standard (monthly/annual) certificates to hourly, based on the open-source EnergyTag Granular Certificate standard. In total, this involved "retiring granular certificates for over 100 sites, representing 10.5 TWh of energy across 7 countries" This enables much more transparent hourly tracking of energy origin, going far beyond today's monthly/annual tracking norms. Our recent work demonstrates that hourly energy certification is feasible at scale and ready to support corporate clean energy goals. Flexidao recently supported Google in converting their global portfolio of energy purchases into hourly certificates following the EnergyTag Granular Certificate Scheme Standard. Applying the “Configuration 3” methodology — which links Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) with hourly meter data — Flexidao converted 10.5 TWh across more than 100 sites in 7 countries, ingesting and validating over 1 million datapoints from asset operators worldwide. Flexidao supported in: 🌐 Ingesting and cleaning data from multiple geographies ⚡ Validating hourly production against retired EACs 📑 Generating verifiable, time-stamped hourly certificates with a robust audit trail The project demonstrated that hourly energy accounting can be implemented at scale across diverse registries and geographies, providing Google with an auditable system that is fully compliant with the Granular Certificate Scheme Standard and aligns with emerging standards and regulatory requirements.
