How can technology help ensure that basic human needs like water and sanitation are met? Mysuru, India invested more than $520 million in urban hygiene and smart sanitation. Declared open-defecation free in 2016, the city now provides drinking water access to more than 98% of households, and reuses 90% of its treated wastewater. Smart technology has played a central role in this progress: 🗑️ IoT and sensors for monitoring and optimising waste collection. 💧 Planning for smart water meters to improve management and reduce leaks. 🚻 Installation of smart public toilets with automated infrastructure, allowing monitoring and control of water and energy consumption.
