🌠 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿: 𝗔 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀! ✨ Every year in mid-August, the night sky offers a spectacular natural display: the Perseids meteor shower. During its peak, you can witness 50 to 100 meteors per hour streaking across the sky. A breathtaking experience for stargazers and astronomy enthusiasts alike. 🔭🌌 🤔But where does this phenomenon come from? 📅Why does it occur at the same time every year? 📅 🪐And why are they called the Perseids? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁 𝟭𝟬𝟵𝗣/𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁-𝗧𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲. ☄️ In our Solar System, planets are not the only objects orbiting the Sun - comets also travel around it. These icy bodies, often referred to as "dirty snowballs," are made of frozen gases, dust, and rock. ❄️🧊 As a comet like Swift-Tuttle approaches the Sun☀️, it heats up, releasing trails of gas and dust. 🌫️ These trails consist of countless tiny debris particles, which remain in orbit in the comet’s wake. 🌠 When the Earth crosses this debris trail, these particles enter our atmosphere at high speed and disintegrate, producing the bright and colorful streaks we see as meteors. ✨🔥 And because Earth follows the same path around the Sun each year, it crosses this trail at the same point in August, making the event predictable and annual. 🌍 To observe the Perseids, simply look up toward the constellation Perseus, the area of the sky where the meteors seem to originate. This point is called the radiant 🌟, and it gives the meteor shower its name. ✍ In fact, there are many other meteor showers throughout the year, each named after the constellation where their radiant is located - such as the Geminids, Orionids, and Lyrids. 🌠 🔭 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡, 𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧, 𝙤𝙧 𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙤𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙧, 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚, 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙪𝙥, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙎𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢. 🌍 🎬 Special thanks to Marion P. and Jérôme Leca for creating the stunning #SkyExplorer rendering used in the video. 🛸 A glimpse of this powerful software, which continues to make astronomy more accessible and engaging for all! 💫 #Astronomy #Perseids #MeteorShower

I was in Canada last week to meet with three key figures in the planetarium and science center world: Ian McLennan, Bill Peters, and Bill Chomik. I was there with my colleagues Nicolas Boyer and Philippe Giron which made the experience even more enjoyable and enriching. It was a truly inspiring trip, filled with great conversations about immersive storytelling, architecture, innovation, and the role of planetariums in tomorrow’s cultural spaces. But beyond their experience and expertise, I really appreciated how friendly, generous, and open they were. It’s always a pleasure to exchange with people who are not only brilliant, but also kind and down to earth. I’m coming back with plenty of ideas and fresh energy for the exciting projects ahead. Thanks again, Ian, Bill & Bill — hope to see you again soon!

When materials science becomes an immersive experience! 🤩 As part of the program “Les Échappées Inattendues” held by the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research), we had the pleasure of attending the immersive conference — Metallic Alloys: When Disorder Becomes a Strength — led by Céline Varvenne and Pierre-Antoine Geslin, researchers at the MatéIS laboratory, held at the Ville de Vaulx-en-Velin Planetarium. They took us to the heart of metallurgy to help us understand: 📊 Why metallic alloys are often stronger than pure materials 🧠 How elastic and plastic properties influence a material’s strength ♻️ And how these advances allow us to envision lighter, more durable... and more eco-friendly materials This immersive experience was made possible thanks to #FreeDome, the software developed by RSA Cosmos, which enabled artists and developers to create a unique immersive experience blending science, visuals, and storytelling. The audience was thus able to dive into the heart of matter to better understand its mechanical properties! 👏 to the entire artistic team: Alex Bourgeois (development) Gahel (musical composition) Simon Bianchetti Audiovisuel (photography) 👉 And a big thank you to our partners Ville de Vaulx-en-Velin Planetarium - CNRS and to Alexandre M. from RSA Cosmos for the support before during and after the conference! A great demonstration of what technology and science can achieve together. 🔥 Would you like to open your planetarium to sciences beyond astronomy?
