  • Collisions with turbines are one of the main risks for migratory and endangered bird species. This issue is attracting increasing attention from regulators, investors, and local communities. The good news is that the solution exists. Oikon now brings world-leading Shutdown on Demand (SDOD) technologies to Southeast Europe: IdentiFlight (USA), Robin Radar Systems (Netherlands) and ProTecBird GmbH (Germany). SDoD is a mitigation strategy used at wind farms to reduce the risk of birds colliding with turbine blades. It involves temporarily stopping the rotation of wind turbines when birds that are at risk are detected approaching the danger zone around turbines. The purpose is to protect bird populations from fatal collisions. Regulatori, investitori i lokalne zajednice sve više prepoznaju taj problem. Dobra vijest je da postoji rješenje. Oikon donosi vodeće Shutdown on Demand (SDOD) tehnologije u jugoistočnu Europu: Identiflight (SAD), Robin Radar Systems (Nizozemska) and ProtecBird (Njemačka).

  • 🦇 We loved hosting the bat team from Waardenburg Ecology (Alrike, Martijn B. and Martijn D.) here in Croatia, together with our colleagues from Supernatural - Nature Research & Consultancy. Their visit was part of our growing collaboration within the European Renewable Energy & Wildlife Consortium (#ERWC), which had also taken us on a study visit to the Netherlands earlier this year. 👉 Over the week, we shared knowledge through workshops on the history and future of bat research in Croatia, methods we use in current projects, and data analysis with a focus on renewable energy. 🌿 Out in the field, we explored together: acoustic monitoring, mist-netting, cave surveys, and habitat reconnaissance. Our Dutch colleagues had the opportunity to discover Croatia’s diverse landscapes and habitats, and for some, it was their first time seeing certain bat species in the wild. 🤝 This exchange strengthened our expertise, expanded horizons, and opened the door to exciting joint projects ahead. • EU legislation, including the Birds and Habitats Directives, and financial standards such as ESG and the EU Taxonomy, increasingly require clear evidence of biodiversity mitigation. Lenders now expect projects to demonstrate how impacts on protected species are avoided, minimised, and monitored. Shutdown on Demand (SDoD) systems have emerged as best practice across Europe. By stopping turbines only when birds are at real risk, SDoD provides credible mitigation, supports compliance, and reduces project risk, making it a key tool for developers and investors. Even in non-EU Balkan countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, international finance institutions (EIB, EBRD) apply EU-level environmental standards. Projects without robust biodiversity measures face higher permitting risks and difficulties securing financing. Implementing SDoD in these markets similarly demonstrates responsible management, protects nature, and increases investor confidence. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ddVG44pZ / Europsko zakonodavstvo, uključujući Direktive o pticama i staništima, te financijski standardi poput ESG-a i EU Taksonomije, sve češće zahtijevaju jasne dokaze o provođenju mjera zaštite bioraznolikosti. Investitori i zajmodavci očekuju da projekti pokažu kako se utjecaji na zaštićene vrste izbjegavaju, ublažavaju i prate kroz cijeli životni ciklus projekta. Sustavi Shutdown on Demand (SDoD) postali su priznata najbolja praksa u Europi. Zaustavljanjem turbina samo kada ptice stvarno ugrožavaju sigurnost, SDoD omogućuje vjerodostojnu zaštitu vrsta, osigurava usklađenost s regulatornim zahtjevima i smanjuje rizik projekta, što ga čini ključnim alatom za investitore i developere. Čak i u ostalim zemljama regije koje nisu članice EU-a, poput Bosne i Hercegovine, Srbije, Crne Gore i Sjeverne Makedonije, međunarodne financijske institucije (EIB, EBRD) primjenjuju standarde zaštite okoliša na razini EU. Projekti bez učinkovitih mjera zaštite bioraznolikosti izloženi su većim rizicima pri izdavanju dozvola i otežanom pristupu financiranju. Implementacija SDoD sustava i u tim tržištima pokazuje odgovorno upravljanje, štiti prirodu i povećava povjerenje investitora.

Time smo postavili temelj za daljnje unaprjeđenje praksi održivog poslovanja, zaštite korisnika i transparentnog izvještavanja. / Oikon is collaborating with Sisecam Soda Lukavac on a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) study in accordance with ISO 14067:2018, a key methodology for calculating product-level GHG emissions. The analysis follows a cradle-to-gate approach, covering all emissions from raw material extraction to the end of the manufacturing process. Unlike organisational footprints (GHG Protocol / ISO 14064), PCF enables precise emission insights per functional unit. Such assessments are essential for decarbonisation, value chain impact management, LCA studies, and the preparation of EPD declarations. These services support companies in strengthening their market competitiveness, meeting customer and regulatory expectations, and setting science-based climate targets. Our team includes TÜV-certified Lead Implementers for ISO 14067, ensuring credibility and compliance with the highest standards.
