AHA - Affordable Housing for All 🌟 Last week, after the summer holiday period, we kicked off the next phase of our work together with our partners Metropolitan Research Institute - Városkutatás Kft, Utcáról Lakásba! Egyesület - From Streets to Homes Association, and of course, the Municipality of Budapest. As leader of the Financial and Operational Sustainability Work Package, our colleagues Zsofia Bulla and Anna Bokányi hosted a 3-hour workshop to discuss how the project’s results can be sustained in the long run. The conversations touched upon building stronger cooperation with municipalities and utilities, engaging the housing sector, and exploring how companies and civil society can contribute to affordable and inclusive solutions. Our work directly supports the project’s most important goals: transforming buildings into affordable housing, developing an early warning and digital platform to support those at risk of housing poverty, strengthening the Housing Office of Budapest, piloting innovative rental models, and laying the foundations for an integrated housing services model for the city. 🌍🌡 NBS4LOCAL - NEW PILOT ACTION IN MOTION! 🚀 We’re proud to share that NbS4Local - Interreg Europe project project pilot action has been officially approved – and it’s already underway as of September! 🎉 💡 The pilot, “Private funding of climate-resilient landscapes using Nature-Based Solutions (NbS)”, is being implemented in the Gete River Valley (Flanders). It draws inspiration from the Finnish “Give Back to Nature, Salla” campaign — a great example of how communities can support #biodiversity, take #climateaction, and stay engaged through transparent and impactful contributions. Why does the “Give Back to Nature” model matter? 🌳 Protects forests, peatlands, and native species 🌡️ Increases carbon storage in soils and woodlands 👥 Brings people together through local engagement ✅ Ensures donors see where their support makes a difference 👉 In Flanders, this pilot will test how citizens and organisations can co-finance NbS projects that reduce flooding, cope with drought, and restore ecosystems. Planned activities include: ✔️ Co-developing a manual to adapt the model ✔️ Launching a test crowdfunding campaign ✔️ Organising local engagement events ✔️ Integrating lessons learned into the Water+Land+Schap policy instrument 🔑 BURST’s role: As an advisory partner, we support the process all the way — from developing templates and a stakeholder survey, to co-creating the manual and ensuring results are integrated and shared across the partnership. 🏁 Looking ahead: The pilot will deliver a final report and manual designed for easy adaptation — supporting future campaigns across Flanders and beyond, including other regions the EU. With adaptable financing schemes and policy recommendations, the model aims to make NbS implementation scalable and transferable. 🌿 We’re at the halfway point of our URBIO BAUHAUS project! So far, we’ve made great strides in finding solutions for biodiversity challenges under the umbrella of New European Bauhaus (#NEB) across Central European municipalities. But the journey is far from over! 🚶♀️🚶♂️ 🏙️ Local BIOCENTUM nodes have been launched in each pilot city — including our amazing city buddies in Érd. These BIOCENTUM’s bring together local stakeholders to co-create solutions for the city biodiversity challenges keeping in mind the NEB principles ➡️🌱. 📚 So far, we’ve: ✅ Developed a joint guide to develop BIOCENTUM nodes ✅ Started finding solutions to integrate biodiversity into NEB compass ✅ developed a central European strategy for NEB-based Urban Biodiverse Transition ✅ Officially kicked off BIOCENTUM’s in all pilot cities 🔮 What’s next? We’ll continue together with the partnership the work in the BIOCENTUM nodes, move into planning and implementation, and host diverse events to build networks and connect with each other🤝🌿. 🌍🌡 NBS4LOCAL - TRAINING MATERIAL TO BUILD CAPACITY FOR A RESILIENT AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE 📗 ✨ BURST, as an advisory partner, is proud to contribute to the NbS4Local - Interreg Europe project project by compiling training material that helps local and regional authorities embrace #NaturebasedSolutions (#NbS). 🌱 NbS are powerful tools to address climate challenges while protecting ecosystems and enhancing community wellbeing. Yet, implementing NbS is complex — it requires local knowledge, cross-sector collaboration, and active stakeholder involvement. To make this possible, raising awareness and building capacity are essential. 💡 With these challenges in mind, one of the main aims of the #NBS4LOCAL project was to develop comprehensive #training material.
