A New Year’s Message From Our Founders, Itai Hayut and Erez Naaman 🎉 The Scopio journey began with the simple observation that too many labs were still relying on outdated manual microscopy, a realization that inspired us to make a difference in hematology through digital innovation. As we look ahead to 2025, we reflect on how far we’ve come in that journey. 2024 was a remarkable year of growth for Scopio Labs. We expanded our reach globally and partnered with many more labs and hospitals to implement Scopio’s full-field peripheral blood smear and bone marrow aspirate applications. Looking ahead to 2025, we believe two primary trends will dominate the landscape. First, ongoing advances in AI will generate even more capacity for analyzing data and will drive a leap in the adoption of AI tools in clinical labs. Second, cost management will continue to be a key driver of change in those settings. Labs are under pressure to improve bottom lines, leading them to rethink workflows and habits in pursuit of greater efficiency and value. Necessity breeds invention.   We remain committed to helping labs integrate cutting-edge technologies to enhance patient care and support digital transformation. When the parents of an 8-year-old boy reached out, researchers at Tel Aviv University responded with science. IVC presented a special analysis at the AI Digital Health conference hosted by People & Computers. The study examined active companies in the field, their funding, and other relevant factors. According to the data, 55% of Israeli AI companies focus on enterprise software and infrastructure, while over 300 companies (13%) work in digital health. The Israeli digital health cluster includes 564 companies. Only 22 companies have more than 100 employees, indicating that the ecosystem is still relatively young. More than half of the companies are at the Seed or R&D stage. On the other hand, 44% are selling products to their markets. There are 338 Israeli AI companies focused on digital health, with 200 of them founded in the past five years. Israeli tech companies raised $93 billion in 6554 deals. Israeli AI companies raised $50 billion in this period. AI digital health companies raised $3.5 billion.

A new study, led by Dr. Hilla Chen together with Dr. Gilad Segev and Dr. Michal Mazaki-Tovi (all HUJI alumni) from the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine at Hebrew University, recently published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, offers new hope for the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in dogs. CKD is a progressive condition in which a dog's kidneys gradually lose their ability to function properly. While it primarily affects older dogs, younger dogs can also develop the disease. One of the major complications of CKD is RHPT, a disorder that occurs when the kidneys fail to regulate essential minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, leading to elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. This imbalance can cause damage to bones and other organs. The study investigated whether paricalcitol, a second-generation vitamin D analog, could effectively attenuate RHPT and mitigate other harmful effects associated with CKD. The findings suggest that paricalcitol could play a pivotal role in managing CKD by reducing RHPT and potentially slowing disease progression. However, given the associated risk, of hypercalcemia, veterinarians should carefully monitor calcium and adjust dosages accordingly. "Our findings open the door for new therapeutic approaches in canine CKD management. While paricalcitol shows promise in reducing PTH levels and stabilizing proteinuria, it requires careful monitoring to avoid adverse effects like hypercalcemia", said Dr. Chen.
