Capturing the future of agriculture! 🍎 We were delighted to host a captivating session titled 'Real-time Food Quality Monitoring using Digital Twin and Machine Learning During Storage'. The esteemed Dr. Dhritiman Saha, Senior Scientist at the ICAR- Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Ludhiana, led the session. The focus of the talk was on the post-harvesting of apple fruit, specifically the 'Red Delicious' apple variant, during cold storage at ICAR-CITH, Srinagar. Dr. Saha provided a deep dive into how digital twin technology, combined with machine learning, is revolutionizing food quality monitoring. He explained the crucial role of temperature and humidity sensors in this process, highlighting the importance of considering room temperature, the core temperature of the apple, and its surface temperature for optimal storage. Dr. Saha also discussed the challenges in shelf life prediction in cold storage. To address these, he and his team created specialized crates fitted with sensors to record temperature, humidity, and the core temperature inside apple crates, providing a more accurate and comprehensive data set. The session was a fantastic opportunity to delve into how cutting-edge technology is revolutionizing post-harvest management. Dr. Saha's insights on leveraging digital twins to optimize cold storage and streamline fruit harvesting processes were truly enlightening and sparked engaging discussions. A special thanks to Dr. Saha for his time and for sharing his deep expertise with us. The event was a testament to the collaborative spirit of iHub - AWaDH @ IIT Ropar and our commitment to fostering innovation in the agricultural sector. Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar's 15th Cyber-Physical Systems Lab powered by NM-ICPS Inaugurated in Indore 🔬 On August 26, 2025, iHub - AWaDH @ IIT Ropar inaugurated its 15th IIT Ropar CPS Lab powered by NM-ICPS at the Acropolis Institute of Technology and Research, Indore. This state-of-the-art facility is part of a broader initiative under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) to decentralize technological innovation throughout India. This new lab is also the first in Madhya Pradesh, Central India. The lab will provide not only students but also faculty members and researchers with advanced tools and resources to pursue cutting-edge projects in key areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and CPS-related hardware. It is also envisioned to boost the startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Madhya Pradesh, creating a pipeline of innovation-driven opportunities. This is a significant step toward preparing a skilled workforce for Industry 4.0. The inauguration event was led by iHub-AWaDH's CEO, Dr. Radhika Trikha, and CIO, Dr. Mukesh Kestwal. We were honored to host Smt. Komal Mittal, Deputy Commissioner of Mohali, whose inspiring address on waste management and the circular economy set the perfect tone for the day. Throughout the day, dynamic panel discussions reinforced a key message: climate action is a shared opportunity. Experts from various fields, including policy, academia, and finance, shared valuable perspectives on fostering sustainable innovation and what it takes for a climate-tech startup to succeed. The entrepreneurial spirit of India's innovators was on full display, showcasing a vibrant ecosystem ready to tackle global challenges.
