The Biggest Startup Mistake: Investing in the Wrong People” Every startup founder stands at a crossroads every single day. On one side – the mission, a path so challenging that quitting is not an option. On the other – the mass, people aligning with you for their own short-term goals, not yours. Being a founder means making tough calls. One of the toughest is investing in people – and deciding who stays and who goes. 🔹 Every year, clean the system. If someone isn’t contributing to the mission, they shouldn’t be part of it. 🔹 Hire better people, not just better resources. Skills can be trained, but attitude and alignment with the mission cannot. 🔹 Never hire an unknown personality. If they are only here for their own goals, they’ll move on the moment those goals are met – and you’ll be left rebuilding. 🔹 Differentiate based on goals. A true contributor’s mission will overlap with the organisation’s mission. A self-centric person will never put the company first. 🔹 In management – zero tolerance. Leadership positions must be filled with people whose goals are the organisation’s goals. Remember – a startup is a long, dark night. You need people who will walk with you until sunrise, not those who leave midway to chase their own dawn.
