How to switch from a CA FIRM to the INDUSTRY? 🤔 I started my career in a CA firm (EY). Audit files, controls testing, vouching, reporting - it gave me a strong foundation in processes like OTC, P2P, insurance and risk. But when I moved to industry (Amazon, Decathlon and Bata) things changed completely. In firms, you audit numbers. In industry, you own them. In firms, you review what others did. In industry, you make the calls. In firms, you point out risks. In industry, you solve them. In firms, your role mostly ends with the report. In industry, the role starts with execution. That’s the biggest difference. From being an outsider giving advice -> to being an insider driving results. Both journeys are valuable. But if you want to move to industry, focus less on technical standards and more on: • Understanding business drivers • Communicating with non-finance people • Thinking about solutions, not just findings Because in industry, finance is not just about compliance. A Chartered Accountant (CA) with more than a decade of experience in Investment Strategy making this mistake is truly astonishing. Recently, I was speaking with a CA who asked me an interesting question: ⚫What is the effect of accelerated depreciation vs. straight-line depreciation on the IRR of a project? My response was simple: Boss, accelerated depreciation has a marginally positive impact on IRR compared to straight-line depreciation due to heavier cashflows in the beginning ! Yet, they argued with me for 5 minutes, absolutely convinced they were right, finally I had to pull up these calculations (attached) to clarify. CFA after CA? Do You Really Need It? This post is for those who have completed their CA and are now considering pursuing CFA. If you are one of them, hold on for a moment. I have something important to share with you. In recent years, doing CFA after CA has become a trend. Isn’t it? CFA is a BIG investment. The fees are high, especially for many in India. Plus, it demands a lot of your time and energy. Before you enroll yourself for CFA, ask yourself: Do I need the CFA for my career goals? A recent survey revealed something surprising: Out of 100 people pursuing CFA, only 10 truly understand how it adds value to their career. And only 5 apply CFA knowledge in their jobs. Shocking, right? Over the years, I’ve come across so many people doing CFA, even when it doesn’t match their interests or career goals. A lot of people are doing CFA just because of FOMO. Funny, isn’t it? Why do you want to study more just because of FOMO? 😂 And to be honest - Success doesn’t come from collecting degrees. 💯 Before you fill the CFA registration form, ask yourself: 1️⃣ How will it add value to my career? 2️⃣ Will it help me land my dream job? The main point I want to make is ~ If you’re putting in the effort, make sure it’s worth it. Don’t let the fancy marketing terms from coaching centers (so many) influence your decision. I believe CFA is a fantastic course if you want to deepen your knowledge of investment management and capital markets. If these topics excite you, go for it! ✅ Combining this all, CFA can be a beneficial only if you have a clear REASON for pursuing it. Most common CFA Level I mistake? Here’s what worked for me (after a lot of trial & error): 📌 1. Start with Quants This is the foundation. If you master it, the rest of the syllabus feels less overwhelming. 📌 2. Cover all other subjects first Leave Ethics & FRA (FSA) for the end — but do them properly. They’re high-weight subjects, but if you start with them, you’ll burn out revisiting them again and again. 📌 3. CFA Portal Qs = Game changer Don’t just attempt them once. Do them at least twice. The repetition helps you spot tricky patterns you’ll definitely see on exam day. 📌 4. Timeline Try to finish the syllabus in 4-5 months. This gives you space for 3–4 mocks in the final month — and trust me, the learning happens when you analyze mistakes, not when you get questions right. Everyone’s prep style is different, but these steps gave me structure when I was lost. Sharing because I know many of you are starting your CFA journey and feeling the same way. People doing CFA are unhappy because of uncertainty. People who are done with CFA are unhappy because they are not getting a job, or they have a job but are doing the same thing and not growing. People who have done an MBA are not happy because there are only sales jobs. The problem is not the degree or certification. The problem is the Indian education system, bureaucracy, and most importantly — population. But apart from this, the real reason is that you don't like what you do. And you're losing motivation because, deep down, you're doing it just for the sake of it. or maybe this is the corporate that everybody dreamed of getting into while studying.

Time constraints prevented full review, though they're highly recommended (especially for Ethics). Instead, I printed and solved all End-of-Chapter questions. PRO TIP: Always study explanations for WRONG answers too - this dramatically improves your analytical thinking and helps identify common traps. • 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆? While your approach depends on your work schedule, my non-negotiables: 1. Going ALL-IN on weekends 2. Leveraging passive learning through revision videos during commutes/breaks 3. Establishing a strict daily minimum study requirement I found that my background in CA was a significant advantage, allowing me to grasp concepts quickly and cover the syllabus in under 90 days.
