Last week we hosted our 3rd annual infra builders event in NYC with infra.nyc. MongoDB CEO Dev Ittycheria sat down with Eric Newcomer to share what he’s learned building and scaling companies. 🔥 A few takeaways: Change is constant. Fast-growing businesses are evolving nonstop. Not every leader, no matter how talented, can scale at the same pace. Don’t hesitate to make changes when needed. Hire committed leaders. It takes ~1 year for a leader to hit their stride, and another to drive outcomes. If they leave in 2 years or sooner, it’s usually a failure—or a lack of grit. NYC is booming. Dev once had to travel from NYC to Boston to raise capital. Today, every major VC has boots on the ground in NYC. SF owns AI density, but NYC is the only place where you bump into Fortune 500 customers on the street.
