PET-based solution for official statistics 📊 Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) refer to a broad range of technologies aimed at ensuring the required level of data protection while maximising data utility. 🛡️ 💡 To support statistical production based on the combination of data from multiple organisations, Eurostat started developing a PET-based solution based on the concept of Multi-Party Secure Private Computing-as-a-Service. This concept builds upon the paradigm of ‘sharing computation instead of sharing data’ and takes the principles of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as requirements for system design. ℹ️The PET-based solution developed by Eurostat can be used by the national statistical institutes and their partners, on demand and across different statistical domains, in a more cost-effective way than developing multiple ad-hoc platforms. The project JOCONDE (Joint On-demand COmputation with No Data Exchange) was launched by Eurostat in collaboration with Cybernetica to specify, prototype and demonstrate the feasibility of the concept in view of future deployment.
