WW+ @ Work: From September 19 to 28, the Journées de l’Architecture Luxembourgeoise 2025 will take place. This exciting event is organized by the LUCA - Luxembourg Center for Architecture in collaboration with OAI - Ordre des Architectes et des Ingénieurs-Conseils and INPA, as part of the European Heritage Days and with the support by the ministry of culture. Over the course of 10 days, visitors can discover building culture across the country – from historic sites to innovative new projects. This edition asks how we can use what already exists to create more sustainable living spaces. WW+ Projects: COHS3 – More than just a sports complex. The expansion of the Centre Omnisports Henri Schmitz creates a space in the Lallange district of Ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette that unites sport and community. The goal was to give the neighbourhood a lively centre – open, inviting, and sustainable. The new building features a light-filled entrance hall with a 12-meter-high climbing wall, two multi-purpose sports halls, a flexible double hall for martial arts, a boxing room, a fitness space, as well as multifunctional areas. The building also includes offices for the Service des Sports, local sports clubs, the Médico-Sportif, and a new brasserie that opens onto the newly designed forecourt. An attached parking garage ensures a smooth access. Sustainable materials such as wood and aluminum, transparent facades with folded and perforated elements, and a clear design language combine durability with openness and urban quality. WW+ Projects: A festive highlight! Yesterday, the Holleschbierg Lift in Hesperange celebrated its opening during a ceremony attended by representatives from politics, the municipality, and the planning and execution teams. The new lift now links Route de Thionville with the Holleschbierg plateau, significantly improving barrier-free mobility between these levels. It covers a 28-metre elevation and is designed for both pedestrians and cyclists. Many hands made this possible! WW+ Projects: How can we shape vibrant a village centre together? This was the guiding question behind the multi-stage participation process for the “Am Sand” masterplan in the municipality of Niederanven. End of June, the results were presented to the public – a transparent response to everyone involved and an important milestone toward redesigning the centre “Am Sand”. The topics of the participative formats - guided tours and workshops - ranged from quality public spaces, mixed uses, and local identity to accessible mobility and climate-resilient open space design. The collected ideas are now feeding into the brief document for a planning competition. WW+ This Is Us: Meet Gina Goedert! For the past two years, Gina has strengthened our Architecture - Execution team at WW+, contributing to the renovation and modernization of the former brasserie premises in the historic Badanstalt, Luxembourg City. What she values most about her work? The diversity of projects, strong team spirit, and the trust to take on responsibility – especially on the construction site. Gina’s architectural path has also been shaped by international experiences: her bachelor thesis was developed during a one-month journey through Taiwan and China. Her Master’s studies at TU Delft allowed for intensive collaboration with renowned Dutch architecture firms. Her favorite architectural styles? Minimalism and International Style – fully in line with #formfollowsfunction. In her free time, Gina enjoys running, brunching as a true #foodie, or capturing architectural details through her lens – her passion for #architecturephotography is always with her. She draws inspiration mainly from traveling – through architecture and craftsmanship from other cultures – that reflects her curiosity for the new and the beautiful. WW+ Projects: Today we’re sharing insights into our competition entry for the new Berchem Sportshall. Together with Witry&Witry S.A. we developed a future-oriented sports campus with a sports and multi-purpose hall, a judo hall and an airtramp facility. We embedded the campus of the Community Réiser in a green corridor that connects the "Kannerinsel" school campus and the Alzette Valley – promoting soft mobility and linking public amenities. Access to the sportshall is via a newly created forecourt that offers space for gathering, activity and rest. The compact building integrates the existing heating plant and responds to the triangular shape of the site. A transparent base with an open ground floor invites visual connections and creates an open welcoming feel to the visitor.
