“You keep coming in and out of clarity.” Someone said that to me early in my founder journey — and it stuck. Because clarity is the real runway. Last week, I came full circle — back at Plug and Play Tech Center in Tirana, 27 years after leaving Albania as an exchange student. Standing in a room full of fearless founders, I heard my inner voice say: MY KIND OF PEOPLE! When Blerina Sanocki invited me to join her fireside chat, I jumped at the chance to share lessons from our combined 30+ years in tech — as builders, investors, operators, and immigrant founders. I’ve also lived it up close these past five years as the wife of a founder, so I know the cost of entrepreneurship — in trust, energy, and capital. In 20 years at Google, I helped scale some of its biggest bets — from AdWords to Android One to Google Cloud. I’ve stood in rooms where bold ideas changed everything… And rooms where brilliance wasn’t enough because the human side couldn’t hold the weight of scale. Lessons we shared with Founders in Residence: ✅ Not all funding is created equal — trust your gut. ✅ Raising money is just the starting line — plan for “Zero Cash Day.” ✅ Money is a magnifier of the good and the bad ✅ Sometimes, shutting down is the boldest leadership move. ✅ “It’s a marathon and a sprint.” (Todd Rowe’s wisdom, still true today.) ✅ Don’t fake it till you make it — but do own your power. Top 20 Institutions of Higher‑Education in the Albanian Speaking Region — Webometrics July 2025 Edition   Last week, Webometrics released its July 2025 global ranking of more than 32,000 Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) from 200 countries (DOI: 10.6084/m9.figshare.29588921.v1). The methodology combines web presence and bibliometric indicators, drawing on Majestic (50 %), Scimago/Scopus (40 %), and OpenAlex (10 %).   The University of Prishtina has retained virtually the same position it held in 2024, remaining the undisputed leader across the Albanian‑speaking region, as the accompanying chart illustrates. The overall decline observed for many institutions this year stems largely from a methodological shift: Webometrics now sources citation data from OpenAlex instead of Google Scholar, underscoring the importance of open research. OpenAlex provides open, licensed, and structured metadata for academic literature, whereas Google Scholar—despite its broad coverage—offers less transparency. As a result, open‑access publishing is becoming increasingly critical for institutional visibility.   Notable gains since January 2024 include the University of Shkodra, which climbed 3,852 places, and the Haxhi Zeka University, up 3,287 places.
