Last week, our breeder Carmen Mari Fernández Bonilla and our researcher Eduardo Tranque Montes, PhD attended the XXI EUCARPIA Meeting of the Tomato Working Group, held in Plovdiv, to stay updated on the latest trends in tomato breeding. It was a great opportunity for AXIA to connect with colleagues from the agribiotechnology sector and explore potential research collaborations for the future.

Onze collega Pieter Immerzeel stapt deze zomer op de fiets voor een bijzondere uitdaging: hij doet mee met Team Westland. Dit team bestaat uit een groep mensen die elk jaar de Col du Tourmalet in Frankrijk beklimmen – te voet, hardlopend of op de fiets – allemaal met één doel voor ogen: geld inzamelen voor kanker-gerelateerde initiatieven in onze regio. De opbrengsten van deze indrukwekkende prestatie gaan naar doelen die écht het verschil maken. Zo worden er bijvoorbeeld medische apparaten aangeschaft voor lokale ziekenhuizen, wordt onderzoek naar kanker ondersteund en wordt zorg geboden aan patiënten en hun naasten. Een klein deel van het opgehaalde geld gaat ook naar het vervullen van laatste wensen van mensen uit de regio met een levensbedreigende ziekte.
