The forgotten layer in wearable tech is finally coming into focus. While innovation has surged in biosensors, circuits and e-skin technologies, the skin–device interface has long lagged behind. Poor adhesion, discomfort and inconsistent readings remain barriers to performance, especially during long wear or intense activity. This feature for Med-Tech Insights, written by Shivani Srivastava, explores how bioinspired polymers are redefining skin integration. From gecko-patterned silicones and octopus-like suction surfaces to mucus-inspired hydrogels and biodegradable adhesives, researchers are engineering interfaces that move, breathe and adapt with the skin. Advances in silicone elastomers, hydrogels, polyurethane adhesives and biopolymer blends are delivering not just secure attachment, but also clean data, comfort and biocompatibility. The next wave of wearable innovation is not only about smarter sensors. It is about materials that make the human body part of the design equation.
