Proofpoint targets AI risks with new agentic workspace security capabilities

Cybersecurity firm Proofpoint Inc. today announced four major innovations at its annual Protect 2025 conference that are designed to secure the agentic workpsace.

The company’s new collaboration and data security capabilities aims to address the foundational risks of the agentic workspace by solving four critical challenges: protecting artificial intelligence assistants from targeted attacks, ensuring the right controls to stop data loss by people and agents, governing the actions of generative AI and AI agents, and using AI agents themselves to automate collaboration and data security for security professionals.

Proofpoint argues that just as digital transformation created the digital workspace, AI transformation is ushering in the agentic workspace. As AI agents and assistants work alongside people to enable breakthrough productivity, they also expand the attack surface at unprecedented speed.

AI agents are also designed to act like people — and just like people, they face similar risks, from social and prompt engineering attacks to the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data or credentials. Proofpoint believes that they require similar but expanded protection.

“The agentic workspace is here and one of the most profound shifts in terms of how work gets done,” said Chief Executive Sumit Dhawan. “Protecting the agentic workspace is the next evolution of human-centric security, extending beyond people to safeguard AI agents and the points where they collaborate and share data.”

Proofpoint’s four services announced today are designed to make the agentic workspace safe, securing the layer where people, agents and data connect.

The first new service allows users to detect and prevent AI exploits over email by allowing people and agents to trust agentic workspace collaboration. Delivered through the Proofpoint Prime Threat Protection solution, users can block exploits before they reach inboxes, ensuring people and AI agents can trust every interaction.

The second service is the launch of Proofpoint Data Security Complete. It’s a new solution that allows organizations to locate their sensitive data, classify it correctly, control who has access to it, and monitor how people interact with it across all channels, from endpoints and email to the web and cloud.

Differing from other offerings, Data Security Complete provides discovery and classification through Autonomous Custom Classifiers for more accurate, dynamic and resilient data classification, with minimal human input.

The solution is complemented by AI Data Governance. It allows organizations to discover both sanctioned and unsanctioned AI usage, apply prebuilt policies to prevent exfiltration and privacy violations and govern access with automated workflows for security teams and content owners.

Third up is the launch of Secure Agent Gateway, a new service built using the Model Context Protocol to control how AI agents access data. The gateway monitors agent activity, enforces policies for data usage and blocks or redacts sensitive data before it is shared with humans or other agents. It works with Proofpoint Data Security Complete to provide a solution for securing data across both people and agents.

The final announcement today is Satori Agents and Satori Agent-to-Agent Access.

Satori Agents operate within Proofpoint solutions and perform tasks such as handling data loss prevention alerts, automating phishing simulations and resolving user-reported email threats for enterprises using the Proofpoint platform.

Satori Agent-to-Agent Access works with external agents, such as CrowdStrike Holding Inc.’s Charlotte and Microsoft Corp.’s Copilot, and can invoke Satori Agents to collaborate across platforms, accelerating security operations, automating repetitive tasks and driving improved security outcomes.

“The rise of the agentic workspace is reshaping cybersecurity at its core,” said Chief Strategy Officer Ryan Kalember. “By uniting collaboration and data security, we are redefining how organizations secure work in the age of AI.”

The new capabilities announced today will be rolled out across Proofpoint’s platform over the coming months.
