The Office of the CIO leads strategic direction and execution of enterprise-wide IT services supporting the university’s education, research, outreach, and administrative missions. Oversees IT Infrastructure, Enterprise Services, Information Security, Educational Technology, and Campus IT Experience. Oversees the development and execution of the IT strategic plan, IT governance, managing enterprise systems, and fostering a culture of innovation, security, and service excellence.

Office of the Assistant Chief Information Officer

Vacant, Office of the ACIO

In support of the efforts of the Office of the CIO, ACIO provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure IT initiatives align with the university’s academic, administrative, and research priorities. Oversees IT governance frameworks, leads operational excellence programs, manages financial and resource allocation, and drives technology innovation and digital transformation.  

Service areas include Administrative Business Services, Federated IT, Finance & Budget and Portfolio Services.

Federated IT

Building a Federated IT Partnership provides embedded, discipline-specific IT support to Colleges and Units. Working collaboratively, the partnership identifies the balance between unit expertise and enterprise solutions in support of the mission, vision, and values of the Unit, IT, and university. Service areas include Broad College of Business, College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, College of Law, College of Natural Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, Infrastructure Planning & Facilities, Intercollegiate Athletics, Office of Health Services, Student Life & Engagement, and University Advancement.

Administrative Business Services

Carrie Murphy, Director for Administrative Business Services

Provides core administrative services that enhance departmental and campus service delivery including administration of the entire employee lifecycle, strategic oversight of all MSU IT assigned spaces, and administrative and clerical services for the IT organization. Service areas include facilities, Office of the CIO administrative support, and workforce & talent management.

 

 

 

 

Finance & Budget

Sam Peterson, MAU Financial Officer

Responsible for planning and analyzing MSU IT’s financial position and proposing strategic direction forresilience, growth, and sustainability. Supports and serves the ever-changing needs of Information Technology and the Michigan State University community by assisting with budget planning and forecasting, financial analysis, management audits, and process and procedure development using the guidance ofFiscal controls set by the University’s Controller’s Office, Office of Financial Planning and Budgets, and University Procurement and Logistics. Service areas include accounting, billing, budgeting, and inventory management.

 

Portfolio Services

Assists MSU IT effective management of resources ensuring the appropriate mix of service, products, and projects to execute MSU IT’s strategy. Service areas include service portfolio management, product portfolio management, project management, and business analysis.

Provides essential IT tools and support services for a seamless university experience, including service desks, call centers, online support, and technology training. Ensures effective communication, change management, and comprehensive support, while maintaining IT support documentation and service catalog.

Service areas include communications & marketing, customer service centers, ID Office, MSU Tech Store, Service Management Office, technology training, and workstation management services.

Educational Technology

Jason Beaudin, Executive Director for Educational Technology

Enhances teaching and learning through environment design, educator and student development, and application portfolio maintenance. Includes classroom tech design and support, digital learning environment design, instructional technology, and training resources to support faculty and staff success. 

Provides services to support the campus research enterprise through consulting engagements with researchers and administrators who request standard and non-standard Research Technology Services. 

Service Areas include learning spaces, instructional technology & development, teaching & learning apps, research lab management systems, research administration systems, research computing and applications and research data.

Supports the architecture, design, development, performance, and user testing for administrative systems, providing user-focused support for the data needs of all academic, administrative, research, and student units.
