Earlier this summer, Hitachi Rail was awarded the contract to deliver advanced CBTC signalling on the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan railway system. Covering 22 kilometres and 16 stations, the CBTC technology – using wireless communication between trains and infrastructure – will enable increased capacity on the line, sustainably meeting the increased transport requirements of the urban populace. Hitachi Rail has completed the installation of its Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) system to manage the 19 stations on the Cairo-Alexandria line. With 54 million passengers per year and covering more than 200 kilometres in length, it is the busiest railway line in Egypt The completion of the project will increase the speed of the trains by 40 km/h, reducing the journey time between the two cities to two and a half hours.
