Movers & Shakers: UK Edition Welcome to our latest UK edition of Movers & Shakers OE's insight into key leadership transitions across the HR, people, and talent landscape for April and May 2025. An increase in the number of CPO and HR Director appointments indicates positivity returning to the UK search market. In addition, there have been a number of specialist HR leadership moves, especially within Global Reward and Workforce Transformation. Demand for HR at Executive and C-Suite level, especially in growth and change-critical sectors, has been high. We have also noted several cross-sector moves during this period. Throwing it back to last Thursday… A busy day co-chairing the City HR Association Roundtable on Skills Intelligence & Skills Based Hiring with Emily Page (née Maslen) and Richard McArdle, and then attending the Financial Services Skills Commission Conference as a delegate. Whilst many businesses are still in a foundational stage of their 'skills maturity', there's no question that skills strategy is a business-critical talent lever - both rooms were full with HR leaders needing to experiment with and evolve talent strategies to match changing organisational, customer, and employee needs. Deloitte's research shows skills-based organisations are 107% more likely to place talent effectively and 57% better at managing change. They are also seeing: - 25-30% faster time-to-fill - 12% improvement in quality of hire - Better candidate-job alignment - Stronger retention rates The most successful implementations focus on fundamentals first: - Start with business problems, not technology - what specific challenges are you solving? - Build cross-functional collaboration - this isn't just an HR initiative! - Create a common language - skills taxonomies that actually work across teams - Think functionally, not role-by-role - real value comes from deeper skills understanding Operating in 'Permanent Beta' Mode 🔄 The pace of change means adaptability itself is becoming our most critical skill. I loved Chloe Muir's take - that humility and continuous learning are more important than expertise. It's a huge theme that we're going to explore in more detail over the next few months. Stay tuned for an upcoming series of videos, articles, and events exploring the evolving landscape of skills transformation, curated by me Sarah Alexander and Amy Morris. #SkillsTransformation #HRLeadership #TalentStrategy #HRexecutivesearch
