We are recruiting a Thames Patrol Deckhand to join our Chief Harbour Master’s department. Operating from our base in Gravesend, this exciting role puts you at the forefront of our operations on the river. Our vessels ensure the safety of navigation on the Thames through routine patrols, monitoring river works and vessels, responding to incidents, and enforcing regulations & Pilot transfer. As part of the Chief Harbour Master’s department, you will be a key presence on the river, working closely with Harbour Masters and other departments across the PLA to maintain a safe and efficient waterway. With the Summer holidays in full swing, we want to remind everyone to ‘Stay Back, Stay Out, Stay Safe’ - Don’t Mess With The River Thames. Last month, we launched a safety film warning children and their parents about the dangers of the tidal River Thames. RNLI Water Safety Lead, Guy Addington, said: “At the RNLI, our priority is helping people enjoy the water safely. That’s why we fully support the Port of London Authority’s message: no one should swim in or enter the tidal Thames. It’s a dangerous, fast-moving, working river. “The safest advice is to stay out altogether.
