An Innovation First at The Harley Street Clinic🚨 We’re proud to share that Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist Dr Oliver Segal, supported by our exceptional cardiac team, has performed a UK private sector first this week using Medtronic Affera™ system – a ground-breaking pulsed field ablation technology for treating atrial fibrillation and complex arrhythmias. 📣 MAJOR MILESTONE: This weekend we took delivery of our Elekta Unity MR-Linac at The Harley Street Clinic, the first of its kind in the HCA Healthcare global network. This new technology combines a MRI scanner with a linear accelerator (Linac) and is used to deliver radiotherapy treatment. Combining these two technologies allows us to visualise tumours in real-time enabling more precise and targeted treatment, minimising damage to healthy tissue and improving treatment outcomes. Weighing over 6 tonnes, safely craning the MRI magnet and other parts of the machine into a listed building in Central London took careful planning and consideration. The team skilfully manoeuvred parts through a temporary opening in the roof, lowering it down into position in the new radiotherapy space at 79 Harley Street. A huge thank you to our Capital Projects Team and our partners for ensuring a smooth delivery. 📣 We’re proud to share a UK-first in spinal surgery. Mr Irfan Malik, Consultant Spinal Surgeon with a specialist interest in spinal neurosurgery, recently performed a minimally invasive lumbar spinal fusion at The Harley Street Clinic, using an innovative combination of Siemens Healthineers Cios Spin imaging and Stryker’s neurosurgical navigation system. This marks the first time in the UK that these technologies have been used together in theatre, the integration of real-time, CT-like 3D imaging with navigation support enables highly accurate placement of four screws to fuse the patient’s vertebrae, eliminating movement between them to relieve pain and other symptoms. We are so pleased to say after a 48 -hour hospital stay, the patient was back to light daily activities just two weeks post-surgery! Mr Malik shared “Precision is everything in spinal surgery – even a few millimetres matter. This technology gave us increased confidence throughout the procedure, helping to deliver safer, faster care.” A huge thank you to our theatre and clinical teams for supporting this milestone.
